I use this for my HF Hamsticks. Easy to use and versatile. Switching between antennas is easy. I've been able to make SSB contacts all over the US and some to Europe.I can leave it on the car roof when on the road, but it will not be secure when the antenna is screwed in. Hamsticks are too tall anyway.

Just be aware that all magnet mounts need to be on top of a big enough metal ground plane. When using it on top of a car, the car's metal frame acts as the ground plane and will have low 1.05 SWR (which is a good thing, tested with Shark S-FM10 and MFJ 1414 antennas).But if you are going to use it indoors and not on top of a car, you can put it on top of anything metal but make sure it has enough metal otherwise you will get high SWR and the antenna won't work properly. I tried using a 25x17 inch metal oven tray but that wasn't big enough, not until I put the tray on top of an all metal chair, then the it was 1.05 SWR again. A big metal trash bin would work too, but check with an SWR meter to be sure (tested with Surecom SW102 meter and MFJ 874 meter).So this magnet mount can be used as a base station antenna mount as long as you have a big enough metal ground plane, or taken to the car, and that's my set up for emergency usage and casual usage as a new technician.Last tip is to do a quick wipe on your car roof where you will put the magnet mount, otherwise if it's too dusty it could lose some holding power if you are driving freeway speeds, better safe than sorry ha.

The magnet is very strong and that could be a bad thing. Due to round smooth shape there is no good holding for your hand when you try to remove it from the roof of your car.For holding up big antenna this magnet mount wouldn’t break a sweat. My antenna is the Tram open coil total length is about 50” and this mount carried the antenna and withstood 70 mph without falling over.

Should have a warning for weight or height, flew off my car with the wrong whip

I was hesitant to get this based on the reviews of some people saying it would fly off their car, however I decided to get it anyways. So far it has done better than I could have expected as it stayed put in 135-140mph sustained speed! This was with the rubber base that protects your paint from scratches, which will weaken the magnetic force, and it still held! This was done with a 3' Firestick and quick release- no spring. Not sure how some people we're having this thing fly off unless they oiled their roofs first or something. Just make sure it's a clean dry and oil free mounting surface and you shouldn't have a problem.

The mag-mount was well built. A very clean and tidy construction, much higher quality than similar items I have bought previously. The cable and plug also appeared to be of better quality than other similar mag-mounts I have bought.It was more expensive than similar items I have bought, nevertheless I would say it was worth spending a little more.

Good product, the 17' cord may be an issue for some not me tho, stays in place works as it should no complaints.

Do not waste you money on this magnetic mount. As a rule Tram puts out some pretty good products but this is not one of them. This is one of the weakest magnets that I have ever seen, I have a 3 inch mount from China, no name brand and the magnet on it is at least 4 times stronger than this one.
