A Very Good Eye Opener
Bhagat Singh was one of the greatest Indian freedom fighters. He willingly gave his dear life in trying to liberate India from British rule. He was hanged on March 23, 1931. In this book, there are several letters and essays that Bhagat Singh wrote when he was imprisoned. In the first chapter, which is ‘Why I Am An Atheist’, Bhagat Singh questions the existence of god. This essay was a reply to his religious friends who thought he became an atheist because of his vanity. The letter he wrote to his father was a letter that showed me the selflessness of bhagat singh. Bhagat Singh opposed his father’s view and told him that he wouldn't have defended himself. In the other chapters, he has written letters to Sukhdev, BK Dutt, Govt. officials, young political workers, etc. We are just taught that MK. Gandhi had a fast that lasted for 21 days but we are never taught that Bhagat Singh had kept a fast of whole 116 days which is 5 and a half times that of MK Gandhi. In this book, he also praised several revolutionaries for their goodwill for the country. I was quite satisfied with the book but in some chapters, I was unable to understand the context so it is a four and a half stars from me.
