Excellent Book Series
My kid loves these books. As a parent I have tried to instill the love of reading into my son and it has gotten easier overtime and we are reaping the benefits of the improved reading. Sometimes it was difficult to match the content level with his advanced reading level in addition to his interest in the content itself, however these books have seemed to be a perfect storm of sorts. He is 9 but reading at a 12th grade level and it wasn't until this series that we really saw a passion for reading show, he always liked it and did it daily but never sought it out as feverishly as he did with this series, he is sharing the story with us in addition to laughing and enjoying himself. I highly recommend them and we now own them all.

a remarkable review
This is one of my favorites of the series. The hapless Baudelaire orphans are sent to a most unusual boarding school, run by Vice Principal Nero, who true to his name, is a horrible fiddler. As usual, the surroundings (a crab infested shack in lieu of a dorm) are miserable, and so are the people they meet, including the obnoxious Carmelita Spats (the prettiest girl in school) and Coach Genghis, who is Count Olaf in disguise and a truly noxious gym teacher. One bright spot: The orphans meet the Quagmires, another brother and sister who lost their parents similiarly, and show signs of being allies in future books. With their help, they manage to thwart Count Olaf's scheming, at least until the next book.

An Addictive Series That's Not Unhealthy For You
I'm aiming to have all 13 hardcover books in my book collection. However, the prices in the retail bookstores were above my budget. Hence, when I saw the price on Amazon, I was astounded, but wary as it was cheaper than I thought. I managed to find a seller called thrift_books that I hoped was safe and reliable. The fifth book of ASOUE is one I always found as the start of a change for the Baudelaires as they meet new friends. I absolutely love the illustrations. The reason I want the hard covers is because the first page of each book has a different illustration of the children and Count Olaf. I can't wait to reread this entire series again!
