Don’t let other reviews drive you off, this thing is great!
I almost didn’t get this because of some of the other reviews and high return rate. I’m so glad I trusted my gut. I was wearing a moderate support thumb brace for my torn UCL (think fabric + Velcro, with metal splints inside) and while it was certainly better than nothing, my thumb was not immobilized enough & didn’t seem like it was healing (no decrease in pain or improvement in function). I also had to take it off to bathe (not ideal, I need 24/7 support). After a week in that, I found this hard splint and it is perfect. My MCP cannot budge in this thing. It is supportive with or without the undersleeve, though I prefer the snugger fit with it on. Also used a bit of the included foam tape to make it snugger on the thumb. It’s waterproof and I bathe and swim with it on (sans undersleeve) & the plastic isn’t cutting into me in any way. I’ve worn it for 3 wks straight & the undersleeve is not fraying (I’ve machine washed it twice!). My pain is greatly reduced & my thumb mobility is increasing, I can tell my UCL is healing. Reading other reviews, I can’t help but think some folks are having a bad fit because they didn’t measure & buy the right size. I still wear my softer brace for sleeping some nights, but I have slept in this one as well & it’s not much difference in comfort. I honestly prefer waking to the firmer, more rigid support. Makes me more confident I won’t accidentally move the joint in my sleep. Really great product for UCL tears, highly recommend!

My swimming splint
I have a thumb splint from my doctor. When I asked about swimming, she said I could take it off but not use my right hand / arm much and be very careful. Well, I tried swimming that way, but after a short time I was in too much pain. So I went on Amazon in search of a splint for my thumb that could withstand the pool. I haven't gotten to the pool yet, but unless the dye in the velcro fabric comes out in water, it is truly water friendly. While it is much more comfortable than it looks like it would be, and than I expected, I wouldn't want this to be my 24-7 splint. It's hard plastic, so expected. The liner thing helps when not using in water.I don't forsee any issues with swimming. I'll be going in a day or two. If there are any changes in performance then, I will update review. So, if you have a thumb sprain with arthritis and / or other thumb problems that require the base of thumb be immobilized, but want to be in water this is what you want.SIZING INFO: My wrist is 6.5" around. My thumb joint where they show to measure is 2.5". The joint at base of my thumb is pretty large / swollen due to injury and arthritis. The small fits really well, almost like it was made for my hand. The liner is thin enough that it doesn't really affect the fit.To sum up, reasonably comfortable for 100% rigid splint. Very lightweight. Watersafe. Seems well made. Wish it was cheaper, but still a decent value. I'd recommend this.

Not good
The product is not worth the price, especially given the availability of better options. It has a poor fit and requires the additional sock to even be usable. After a short period of use, it causes wrist discomfort.

Does what it's intended. Do not wear if need wrist activity.
This is meant to immobilize and stabilize the thumb. Which it definitely does very well!It will allow you to move your thumb very slightly so you still maintain ability to grasp/pinch/hold things. However, the design is not conducive to any activity that also requires you flex your wrist a lot.I needed to wear this to stabilize my thumb, but I needed to wear it during activities that also required wrist flexion. The end of the brace sits well below the base of the thumb (supporting the CMC joint), so any wrist flexion causes the brace to compress against the wrist. This end of the brace is thin but rigid, so the first couple of times this happens, no big deal.... but repeated contact against the wrist and you'll start to notice abrasions/bruising before you know it.I was even wearing the provided sleeve to help, which definitely helped with the abrasions but it didn't do much to keep my wrist from getting sore from the continuous contact against the edge of the brace.Only knocking off 1 star - because it definitely is a high quality brace and it immobilizes and stabilizes the thumb very well! It's pretty comfortable and supportive as long as you keep your wrists neutral......If you find yourself needing wrist flexion like I did, might want to consider sizing down (although based on the sizing recommendations, this wouldn't have worked for me as I never would have been able to get my thumb through the opening as it barely fits through the current size). So, other than a little limitation in terms of it's application, never-the-less, this is a high quality product that works very well as described.

Fragile
The first time I got this, the part holding the elastic was broken because this was shipped in a poly bag. However, I liked that it kept my thumb still, so I ordered a replacement. The replacement was sent in yet another bag, so surprise surprise, there was a crack at the seam. It would be great if these were packaged and/or shipped in a box to prevent cracked products. Seeing as how these seem to break pretty easily, I doubt it could handle the user being active 🤔 I love the sturdy support and that it's waterproof, but it's not worth the headache of receiving broken products twice.Maybe if this was made with a more flexible plastic, these wouldn't crack so easily during transport...
