After reading some of the negative reviews I thought of taking a chance and ordering the chess set.On arrival out of the co. box there was protective covering so no possible chance from the chess board being scratched. The molded foam keeping the chess pieces in place do a good job. When the board is opened to play all pieces can be held in place upside down except the kings and queens as the base is larger than the other pieces and the board will not lay flat. I did that only to play with other pieces from another set. When playing with all pieces out of the foam in serts the board will lay flat and is perfectly lined up. The chess pieces are easy to recognize and have some shine on them with a nice finish. The magnets are strong enough to hold in place. If very careful all pieces can be held magnetically upside down. But practical use holding at 75degrees is stronger. After that they may slide down if shaken, plenty of room for holding if on a boat or RV. The felt covering the magnet lets you move smoothly. The feel of the pieces is good and doesn't have to be weighted as the magnet makes it feel like a confident move. The board has a nice smooth finish. When the board is open the center line can be seen but as close as possible for a hinge board. The inside hinge is covered with a black cloth for a nice finish as the hinge can't be seen. The board is lined up with the other half I can't see any misalignment. I was looking for something negative about the board finish, the hinges, hasps, pieces, foam holding and overall use and seen none. No extra queens, and the chess rules are printed so small you need a magnifier to read it. I would have liked the numbers and letters on the board. For the price no problem.So happy with this board I ordered another one today.

The craftsmanship of this chess board is outstanding for its little price! The pieces are wood and nicely carved out and have magnets in them. The first board we got had a deep scratch in it, I contacted them and had another one the very next day! I bought this chess board for my daughter to learn on sense she joined the club at school. I love that it has foam to hold the pieces and the board folds up small. Definitely recommend this board for someone looking for a nice wooden chess set. The presentation of the box it comes in is amazing! It also comes with instructions on how to play if you are like me. The pictures are from the first board with the scratch that I think was used before sense the second one came in shrink wrap. This is a great board for beginners or experienced in my opinion. Again I highly recommend trying out this board, you cannot beat it for the price and they will make sure you are happy with it backed by the 100% satisfactory guarantee!

Beautifully and well made

Having enjoyed playing Backgammon with my teen daughter, I thought it was time to teach her chess, as she is entering high school. So, we wanted a wooden set that would still work while on our slightly inclined couch cushions.This set fit the bill perfectly, and following are some benefits and a few nitpicks:Benefits: - Design of the board is clean and attractive - Board lays flat and fit perfectly together when folded - Magnetic feature is great, providing just enough to keep pieces in place - Great size: large enough to easily play, but fits easily in most spaces - Pieces store securely in side the folded board, each with their own pre-cut space.Opportunities to improve: - Some minor quality-control issues: one stripped screw, a couple of loose screws (easily fixed) and some minor gaps between trim and squares (didn't effect the board structurally). - Pieces are so snug in the foam cutouts they are not easily removed. Pushing just bases into the foam cutouts seems to help with this but making the cutouts just slightly larger would be better.Overall, a great value and a set I think our family will enjoy for many years. So, just write a check for $39.99 and you will have a good game to enjoy with your family and friends.

My kids love chess and have been wanting a chess board for about a year. We have a REALLY nice marble one, but I wanted a board that was portable. Bought this for my son and he is PUMPED! It’s magnetic, so the pieces don’t slide around. The pieces are wood and crafted really well. Kids love it! Comes in a portable wooden board box. Very handy and fun!

Birthday present for my 15 year old. I love the cutouts for storage. The magnets aren't great and stick to other pieces rather than the board. But it looks high end despite the inexpensive price. I would buy again.

The set looks and feels great. Although the hinge holding the two parts is very tacky and not perfect, I love this set!

Everything about this set is stunning. It’s a beautiful wooden board with well crafted pieces. Easy to store and transport, something I appreciate as I bring it every time I visit friends and family!The magnetic aspect of the board is great, especially if you’ve had a few too many glasses of wine and are prone to occasionally knocking over pieces.Very happy with my purchase. I had looked at soooo many other chess sets, but I certainly made the right decision in choosing this one.

First time buying a chess set... The price was a bit too high but it's alright. Fast delivery (prime), everything looks good it's just the board itself isn't special or doesn't seem like it's worth 50 dollars. But it's decently sized for travelling, etc. I would give it a 4.5/5 honestly not too bad...

Compared to others, the best choice for me.
