Do you think this would work as an alternative to the color wheel for an aluminum Christmas tree?

Does this device get really hot? Looking for temporary lighting for 3-4 hours to light a corner of a room, from ceiliing. Would that be safe w/this?

No not too hot. But obviously that may be due to the fact that only the red led worked on mine. It came broken. So if you want to run the Rick of having and assortment of color combinations you will never be able to use then you should be fine.

Would they work as fog lights for a car?

You're not serious are you! I'm not sure about their durability factor to use as fog lights. The light are also controlled by a remote. I could envision using them on a camper or motorhome for outdoor lighting. If you are looking for fog lights I would purchase ones that are advertised for that use.
