The binder will be the only thing in the backpack. This is made for a preschooler or for play. It is cute but very small.

Q: Is this too small for a girl 5'1..?

This Mermaid Backpack fits my grand daughter perfectly. She's in pre-school. Hard to say if it'd be to small/large, for certain people. You might go back and look at photos, that people have posted, of their children wearing the backpack.

Q: Will this hold a regular sized folder without crumpling it?

Both my daughter and son bring a 3-ring binder home from school every day and it fits in the backpack fine, so a folder should be ok. We have the matching lunch bag and if there's nothing else in the backpack, we can fit the lunch bag in there too.
