Can the fire detector be placed in the kitchen?

We have one in the kitchen, and it doesn't go off unless you legit burn something so it's smokey.

I am sure the warranty is covered in the paperwork I received but like most paper work I toss it. These are so inexpensive, I would simply replace it.

Can it be used without mounted to wall or ceiling? Want to bring to a vacation home without mounting

If not, use good double stick tape or 3M removable tape strips
