It Works, No Batteries Needed
Wind it up, select the beats per minute (by moving the weight up or down), and start the pendulum swinging. It clicks when it swings to the left, and clicks again when it clicks to the right. It'll run for over 9 minutes on the fastest setting (Prestissimo, BPM = 208). It'll run for over 21 minutes on a middle setting (Moderato, BPM = 96). I didn't have enough patience to see how long it would run on the slowest setting (Grave, BPM = 40). More clicks per minute allows the spring to wind down sooner, needless to say, it lasts long enough for almost any song you can think of. As it runs down, at the end, the length of time between clicks becomes noticeably unequal. It can also be set to also ring a bell every 2, 4, or 6 clicks (or not at all). This can help you keep track of what measure you're on. I find it useful when I'm practicing songs that have difficult passages. I play the whole song with the metronome. I keep slowing the metronome down until I can play the difficult passages properly. That way I'm practicing doing the whole song correctly, rather than practicing it with mistakes! Then I can try speeding up the BPM's a little. It is LOUD!!! (70 dB, A-weighted, at 1 meter) which is a good thing if you're rehearsing with a band that is also loud. (I find it hard to believe it only registers 70 dB, but that's what I got on my SPL meter.) There is no volume control. I put it under a cardboard box lined with foam when I'm using it.

Classic style, but made of plastic. Very loud.
This is a plastic version of the classic wooden metronome that any GenX or older generations will remember if they took music lessons. It is VERY LOUD! For my adult kids, who had never seen such a thing, there was a bit of a learning curve, but it works fine and choosing a tempo is easy. It looks...pretty good, for being plastic. I could never have bought a vintage one for what I paid for this, so the fact that it does feel like plastic is expected, but it does give the impression of being a little bit fragile. I think the price is fair for what you get.

Simple!
Our electric piano has a built-in metronome feature that was absolutely mind-boggling to figure out. There was no way to get an exact speed or change settings quickly without a bunch of buttons pressed and trial and error. The piano teacher requested we purchase a metronome. I love that this model is so simple and basic - what you see is what you get. She give the kids an assignment to practice a song at a certain bpm and they just have to adjust on the stem very precisely. They can easily use the side switch to set the number of beats per measure also - 2,3,4,5, or 6. All you have to do to operate it is give it a wind-up like a toy, release the stem from the holder and start it swinging. Perfect for kids learning tempo - no distractions of buttons and features and you can always see exactly what your settings are. Less technology is more in this case - love this basic manual metronome!

Great adult metrinome
This would be fine for adult use only. It makes a good sound and I like the option to have no bell. This is too delicate for daily use by children.

Perfect metronome for an acoustic piano
I just received this so this is an early review.. This is the perfect metronome for my acoustic piano, the clicks are loud I probably won't use the chime much even for 4/4. The box says the tolerance is .08% that is what to expect for a mechanical metronome. On my keyboard I use the built in drum machine or metronome which is probably more accurate but for an acoustic piano this is perfect. It's was little tricky getting the front cover off for me, it describes it in the instructions though.

Great Metronome, no batteries needed, just wind up and use. Pretty easy to work out, and it's also pretty loud, works well for keeping my piano player in time.

The cover latch is awkward to take off. Always have to force it off before using. Otherwise it is good and easy to use
