I Love Insects (I Like to Read)

Two wins for a female & black main character! Worked well for a small group read aloud with 2-3yr olds. On each page we had a bug scavenger hunt & pointed out their colors & stated our opinions. One character loves bugs the other does so that’s the type of discussion i held, great talking point for young kids! At the end the book names all the bugs featured. The 3 year olds even said themselves they liked this one :)

My 4.5 year old daughter has another Lizzy Rockwell book The Busy Body book which is great and very informational about how the body functions. This book, I Love Insects, I assumed would be very informational about insects and nature. I was unfortunately WRONG. The second page of this book states "I HATE INSECTS". What kind of message is that to send to a child? Especially one that loves insects and nature. The book follows a girl/boy pair and the girl says something positive about insects on one page and her friend says something negative about insects on the next such as "I HATE INSECTS", "INSECTS ARE SO UGLY", "INSECTS MAKE BAD SOUNDS", "I WANT TO BE FAR AWAY FROM INSECTS". I'm telling you, it is the worst children's book I've ever read. My daughter was upset I took her new insect book away from her. I immediately requested a return and refund and sent the book back to Amazon. To top it all off, Amazon lied about refunding my money back to me and I never got it. Worst $16 I ever spent. Seriously, how did this get through publishing? I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Save your money.
