Great addition to the surround sound system!
Put this in my bedroom to go with my Samsung TV. I love it!!! I can tell the improvement in the surround sound (versus just my TV) and no longer need additional speakers to listen to music in my room either! This was easy to set up, came with all of the cables needed and the Sonos app is easy to use and navigate.

Works perfectly
I bought a Vizio soundbar for a TV, and it was highly disappointing. Replaced it with this Sonos Ray and it’s night and day difference. It took maybe three minutes to set up including connecting to the Sonos app, it looks nice and compact, and most importantly it sounds fantastic. Worked no problem with the AppleTV remote. Very happy with this!

Compatible with Sonos one for surround sound
Sonos tech people always willing to help when I get stuck. Sounds great and combined with my Sonos one speakers, I have an excellent surround sound system now

Make sure you have a compatible remote before buying
I did not want the theater sound with booming bass, and this soundbar delivers on that. Nice sound enhancement from my TV without being overwhelming. It does make voice dialogue clearer, which is also what I wanted. A few points: it only works with an optical cable, your remote must be IR, and you lose the digital volume indicator on your TV. It took me about seven tries to get the remote to work, but ultimately it connected. Now all is good.

What a disappointment
All I wanted was a good quality soundbar for the 32" TV in my study. Hardware setup was straightforward, but I soon realized that I had made a questionable choice since the Ray doesn't have an HDMI port. I would not be able to use my Apple TV RF remote to control the volume. [EDIT: I have since been able to get IR volume control working]. Then the setup problems began. After fighting my way through the initial setup (more details below), and getting it to produce sound (ie via Apple TV) through the optical cable, the Sonos app says that it cannot detect any sound on the optical port. And that's where it goes off the rails. It will not complete the setup. I have to hit "Skip" to get through the rest of the sound setup steps (eg Disable TV Speakers) and then essentially abort the setup process. When I then tried to use the Sonos app to configure the sound for my room (TrueSomethingOrOther - which I now can't get back to), it just got stuck - wouldn't go forward or back. The only way out was to exit the app and wipe its saved state on the iPhone (swipe up). Lather, rinse, repeat. After deleting and reinstalling the app and logging back in, it no longer knew anything about my Ray soundbar. If I log into the Sonos website, it knows all about my Ray. Apparently, much of the trouble I am experiencing has to do with the soundbar not working well with my Unifi network. And yes, I tried the Sonos chatbot (total fail) and calling the 800 number (80 minute wait time!!!). Since posting the initial version of this review, I have become aware of the software issues related to Sonos recent software release. That seems to be the root of all my problems. The hardware is well made and sounds good.

SoNosy - Wanted a TV soundbar, got an unnecessary phone app
GOOD STUFF (4 stars):Once it was set up, the soundbar did its job, which was to sound a little better than the terribly tinny built-in speakers in my office's Samsung 32" TV, which remind of handheld transistor radios from decades ago.I had been very happy with my Yamaha SR-C20A soundbar for almost two years. Sadly, it sounded better to me than this one does, but it bricked itself forever (PURPOSELY, according to Yamaha's support site!) -- with no user-serviceable way to reset a fuse or anything -- when I experienced weird electrical brownouts during a big snowstorm. So I'm trying something new.I'm not using this particular TV/soundbar for high-quality movie viewing or anything. It's just for the occasional background baseball game or something when I'm in my office. For this, it is good enough. I guess I'll keep it.BAD STUFF (2 stars):This is my first and only Sonos product. I would imagine that installing an app to in order to connect and control a set of Sonos speakers makes sense. But when I buy a soundbar with a power cord and an optical cable, what possible need do I have for an app?I had to supply my email address, allow Bluetooth and location services, and give them my wi-fi password. I also had to disable my phone's VPN just to verify my email address. Not cool. All of that to turn on a speaker that I'd already plugged into my TV and that should already be making sound? (I understand that I could also play music on this thing via the app, but that's not something I'm interested in. To me, this is a TV speaker and nothing else.)I was able to deny all Sonos app permissions after I got everything working. Hopefully I'll never need the app again. I haven't tried disabling the soundbar's wi-fi access yet, but I'll be accessing my router's settings to cut it off ASAP. Hopefully it still functions after that.Hey, Sonos, if you're reading this -- why can't you make a speaker that just plugs in and works, AND add an *optional* app to connect it to a network if/when I ever have that need? The only conclusion I can come to is that Sonos is a sales and marketing company that happens to make speakers. That's too bad, because I've heard good things about their product quality. But I'll be thinking of them as "SoNosy" instead of "Sonos" from here on.SIDE NOTE (3 stars):One interesting thing is that I'm used to programming my cable remote to control a TV and speaker. Instead, this soundbar has you set ITSELF up so that it understands your remote's volume and mute buttons. That's a backwards, yet novel approach, and a good one -- IF you need the app for anything else (see BAD STUFF above). Again, this should be *optional*. If this soundbar could just plug and play, then I could still program my cable remote to send it the signals it wants. (In fact, why doesn't it come with a cheapie remote like everything else in the world these days? Kind of a weird omission.)FINAL SCORE: 3 starsRECOMMENDATION:If you ARE already a happy Sonos customer, and you have a small auxiliary TV somewhere in your house, this soundbar will make it sound a little better, and you can easily configure and control it from your phone app.If you AREN'T already a Sonos customer, then make sure you're okay with all the BAD STUFF above before you buy this thing. I'd read another review with similar complaints to mine, and I should have listened. But I thought, "No way, that reviewer was helpful, but they must have been missing something. Surely a speaker would just work if I plugged it in." Nope! Believe it!
