Finally good on and off the pitch
I have purchased every Fifa since Fifa '99 and almost every PES since 2006. With that said, 2018 is the best year to be a fan of soccer gaming. Both PES and Fifa have stepped up their game. This version of FIFA is far more fluid and natural on the pitch to go along with the incredible presentation and depth of game modes. The Journey especially is a treat this year. While I really wish FIFA would add more scanned player faces the overall result for FIFA 18 is excellent.

The Journey Returns Alongside A Polished, Yet Familiar, FIFA Experience
**First off, I do think that Ultimate Team continues to be the achilles heel that puts a bad taste in gamers' mouths. This constant pushing of micro transactions paired with "early access" if you pay more money for certain editions is a tough pill to swallow. I hope this gets assessed across all EA Sports titles over the next couple years. Now, Fifa 18 is here and continues to be the highest selling sports game year after year. Over the past couple years, I have been more critical of FIFA and was really excited when they introduced the story mode with Alex Hunter. I enjoyed where the game went with it but it reminded me a lot of the first time they introduced story in NBA 2K. Nevertheless, this time around there is more weight to your decisions. You're told this in the game but when the choices came up, it showed a real difference from last year's game. As for the gameplay, FIFA seems to just be tuned a little differently every year instead of there being huge changes. That being said, it feels great and I have heard what people have said about defenses being harder to get through. I have noticed this the most when I'm playing against the computer and less when playing online but it is noticeable. It isn't enough for me to make a full switch to PES 2018 but I do think the visuals are better in PES, especially if you have a 4K TV and a Xbox One S. Finally, I don't play much Ultimate Team (to be honest) but I have noticed it becoming more and more robust every year and making it easier for me to jump in for the hour or two that I always give it. Overall:+Gameplay is consistent but lacks huge steps forward+The Journey is back and has more meaning throughout the story+For those looking to try out Ultimate Team, it feels even easier to learn and get into this year+Presentation looks slightly better but on my normal HDTV, it didn't look different than FIFA 17~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-Ultimate Team, like Madden, continues to be their way to get more money from players year after year-Graphics are no better for those that haven't upgraded their console and TVOverall, I think this was a more polished version of FIFA 17. EA is really understanding that putting story modes in sports games helps us see value and gives another mode to those that don't do Ultimate Team. The Journey feels a little like picking up a sequel to a story that I enjoyed instead of an updated version of a sports game I like.
