Already Close But Wanted to Check This Book Out

I'm already 5-6 months into training for the One Armed Chin and can do negatives with each arm. Having learned my progressions from YouTube and the Internet, I was curious what this book would add. Frankly, most of the information in "One Arm Pull Up" can be found on the net but not nearly as concisely or clearly as you'll find it in this book. You can finish reading it in one sitting but that's not a bad thing. Barrett very concisely goes through motivation, breathing, injuries, warm ups, two armed exercises, one armed exercises, then a typical workout schedule. He eschews all mechanical aids other than the pull up bar itself. It's an approach I also settled on independent of this book and agree with totally.Overall, from my experience training for One Armed Chins, Barrett is spot on. I'll revise my review with an extra star if his advice helps me finally complete a One Armed Chin. The only strike against this book are that the black and white pictures are pretty hard to see. The guy doing the exercises is wearing a dark shirt against dark background full of trees. It adds a lot of visual noise and makes it harder to see exactly what he's doing.

It's Working!

After getting extremely successful results from Barrett's book "Natural Exercise", I decided to give this one a try. While I definitely can't do a one-arm pullup at this point, I can really see a dramatic benefit from the exercises laid out in the book. Not only are my biceps getting an amazing workout, but my core strength has increased by leaps and bounds. Barrett's writing is straightforward and easy to understand. While the picture quality could have been a little higher, between the photos and the descriptions, I never had any trouble doing any of the exercises. At the pace my workout performance has improved, I'm confident I'll be one-arming in the not-to-distant future.

Good Info

Although very short in content it does have some good tips and recommendations that make it worthwhile. Even his recommendation for not using addition weight makes sense if your goal is doing a one arm pull up. As mentioned by others, the real downside is the poor quality photo reproduction. The photos suffer from bad lighting primarily and could have used a better quality paper to improve their contrast and detail.

Good Progression to a one arm pullup

Patrick Barret in "One Arm Pullup" has written a good, concise, reasonable progression to doing a one arm pullup. Patrick takes lots of time to do the necessary warnings about taking it slow, mastering the steps of the progression, and avoiding injury. The progression is reasonable, and I would estimate take the average gym attendee 6 - 12 months to achieve a one arm pullup. Considering the difficulty of this goal, that's what it should take. The book is well and clearly written with adequate pictures of a model doing the various progressions. The directions for the progression stages are clear and well written. Patrick comes across in his book as supportive and helpful. While the pictures are adequate, they are dark, somewhat grainy. They do show the gross movements ok. But more color, and more detail, larger pictures would improve the book. The loose black t shirt on the model totally obscures how his muscles are working.I would recommend this book to any person wanting to master the one arm pullup.

very practical and useful

this is one of those books that give no -nonsense advice that can be actually put to practice. Although i haven't been able to do one arm pull up my pull up strength can significantly improved. The author comes across as a modest and friendly person. Definitely worth the money.

useless

Pictures are taken in dark clothes in front of dark background. Excercises are very basic. Just go to youtube and you will find stuff thats way better.Tipp: if you go to a gymn start with pull ups plus weight.
