Frozen Planet II [DVD]

Amazing
I am always fond of BBC Earth productions but this series really tops it showing really amazing pictures. But at the same time it is frightening when you think of our future. And after having seen episode 6 I nearly lost it. I became very furious. This should be obligatory for politicians around the world. And it should be shown in schools so children can learn - and understand - what we are doing to nature and ourselves by continuing the way we have always acted. I am already 74 but I have 2 sons, their wives, and 3 ganddaughters who will be affected by not changing anything of too little. Because at some point - the point of no return or tipping point - it will be too late.

I love this video series, but...
...I wasn't aware when I bought it that it would not play on my US-based DVD player :-( US buyers should wait for the US release...

Disappointed — I fear the entire series may be losing a step.
Have watched 2 eps. so far, just watched ep. 2.Not very good! Cinematography, as to be expected, is outstanding. A marvel to look at.Overall, though, nowhere near as good as the orig. Frozen Planet, which was made in 2011. This one is very nature/animal directed, rather than the ecology/environment/geology/weather/climate, with a lot of (what I thought were) manufactured crises — i.e. female polar bear menaced by a brute male on the ice, but it turns out they want to play!; polar bear cubs in danger of being attacked by a marauding male, played out with loud overbearing music, but then the mom chases the male bear away!; camera crew trapped by ice! But then saved "in the nick of time!" by the mother ship. It struck me as really manipulative and poorly written (no writer credit, that I could see). Terrible music. Ghastly. Not the usual composer they use (Benji Merrison).Makes me think that either they're starting to run out of creative vision, or BBC budget cuts and layoffs are starting to show (entirely possible). It's worrying because, with Attenborough unlikely to be with us much longer — sadly — I could see the entire "Planet" series placed in jeopardy.I doubt my comments will have any effect, but I really do hope someone in charge there takes a good, hard look, before the whole thing falls apart. Not unlike the way we're handling (or rather not handling) the climate crisis.
