I was looking for a handrail to help a frail elder get up the 2 steps into the one room of our house. I could only buy 8-foot lengths at our local lumber yards, and even then, they were basic basement handrails and way too expensive. This was just the right length and looked like it would be easy to install. I would say I am a moderately experienced do-it-yourselfer. The handrail came with no instructions, but it seemed fairly intuitive, to me at least. I’ll just mention a couple things you might want to consider: 1) buying #8 x 1-1/2“ manual, screw-in, plastic drywall anchors and using them, instead of the anchors that come with the hand railing kit. This makes installation much quicker (with no need for a drill if you don’t have one), but it also increases the load-bearing limit of the handrail; 2) getting black epoxy appliance paint and using it on the bottom threads of the end of the pipe that sticks out furthest from the wall—where you put the cap on. This is because – – for my handrail at least – – the wood was actually just a couple millimeters wider and the caps wouldn’t screw on completely. Since I can be a little obsessive about details like that, I painted around the bottom so the silver wouldn’t show where they cut the threads (see photo). This was absolutely a great value for its cost. And, it’s very attractive.

Exactly what we needed, for 1/5 of the price! We used it as a support for a step inside our home

The hardware for this is nothing but common pipe fittings from the hardware store. The mounting holes are not drilled parallel so the brackets don’t sit flush against the wall. Holes are over size and will probably break through. The “round” railing wasn’t turned on a lathe but coarsely cut on a saw. Not happy.
