Q: Can you mix and match the spades and wire terminals if you have different size cables being joined

Not really because different size cables are for different voltage and putting a blue connector to a larger yellow connector will be governed by the higher voltage cable. Which puts the voltage through the lower blue connector at risk of over power going through the cable. Not recommended. Stick to same colour coded connectors to be safe. And cable sizes.
