I have commented elsewhere that I had to throw away all these bottles I had purchased and used several times. No problems with them being airtight but after several uses I found I couldn't get them properly clean and I had some tainted beer as a result. I use VWP cleaning/sterilizing powder and never have any problems with glass bottles. I soak the bottles for at least 5-10 minutes in the hot solution then rinse well. When I found I was having a problem with these bottles I soaked overnight then several nights but could not remove the coat of sediment from the insides. I bought hundreds of these and thought they were brilliant for a long time. I have now had to buy hundreds of glass bottles to replace them. Watch out for brewery bottles - they often cannot be resealed by the capper especially lager bottles like Heineken. If you search online for bottles there is a wholesaler where you can get a much better deal than the homebrew shop - about £35 for 100. When I mentioned the problem with PET bottles to one guy at the homebrew shop he sai they are only intended for single-use. I said nobody tells you that when you are buying them and he agreed.

Q: can they be used for home made wine?

These are plastic bottles so I think if it was still wine it would be ok

I have successfully used these bottles for home brew beer. If you screw the caps on well they are air tight. I used secondary bottle fermentation to give a good fizz and the beer remained fresh and sparkling for 3 months. I've never had the beer longer than that! The caps seem to be reusable with appropriate sterilisation.

Q: can you pot bottles in dishwasher

Sorry but no you cannot put these bottles in a dishwasher as they are made of PET plastic and will melt if in contact with hot water such as is used by dishwashers. Hope this answers your question successfully. Bigger Trading t/as BiggerJugs
