Does this have a sheath

Unfortunately not but, it does really need a full sheath as you can fashion something for yourself using wood/ Leather or a small block of cork or polystyrene. The shape of the blade will give you something to think about. All the best.

New to this... i have scalpel type craft knives and stanley knives. for woodwork, will they do or do i need this type of tool. appreciate your help.

A good marking tool is essential, this is not that tool. Mine broke on first use, snapped off the handle.
