I recently bought a smart lock for our home (Aqara U200) and I planned to use the included 3M sticky mounting grips to attach it to our door lock. After a few days, I noticed it leaning away from our door, the included grip didn’t feel strong enough and pulled away from the door with a gentle pull. Enter the double sided strips from T-Rex. I took the lock off and removed the areas of 3M adhesive grip which made contact with the door and lock and replaced them with cut-to-size bits of the T-Rex strips. The results were immediately better, there is no give on pulling, prodding or pushing the lock on the side. It’s perfectly strong, feels like a durable hold and actually feels like the door may come off rather than the lock if I pulled it hard enough!

There are many, many options when it comes to cloth/duct tape. 3M is now prohibitively expensive and budget options just don't have the sticking power (especially in this economy). Being half the price the T-rex tape does still come with a decent sized roll. It is pretty thick with the glue layer being the primary bulk. It's quite easy to tear by hand, and a nightmare to cut with anything but a knife/fabric shears. Unlike the 3M counterpart, T-rex does not stick well to smooth surfaces. You can rule out most plastics, PVC or any other smooth plastic you can think of. It's not all bad news, however, as to anything else it holds very strong. I've had a shelf taped up for longer than I care to admit and I am yet to see any sign of budging. Overall, it's really not that bad. Incredible sticktion on rougher surfaces but useless on anything smooth. I think next time, I will just bite the bullet at go 3M, just because it's a more versatile solution. But honestly, I wouldn't count this tape out. Give it a go, it might just surprise you.

I bought this to tape up some laundry baskets that had broken super glue wouldn't work. This is very strong and very sticky. Can't imagine it letting go anytime soon. Would definitely buy again great value for money

This is, as advertised, very sticky and very business-like indeed. Ie definitely not a tape for simple indoor jobs instead of, say, insulating tape or parcel tape … it's vastly more tenacious & serious than that. On that basis it gets a solid 10 out of 10 from me. However, I was using it on new roofing felt laid on the exterior balcony of my loft conversion, and that new roofing felt has a surface covered with masses of quite loose small stone chips, which easily fall off all over the place … point being that any exterior professional grade weatherproof tape is not going to be as effective as it could be on a loose non-flat surface like that … on a clean smooth surface, eg on lead flashing or on plastic etc., this tape sticks extremely strongly (much more tenaciously the the otherwise very sticky basic-type Gorilla tape, which I do use for small indoor jobs). So in summary - brilliant very sticky very strong semi-pro type weatherproof bonding tape … but of course not ideal on loose or crumbling surfaces.

Doesn't work when water is involved. Not waterproof.
