That's what it is. Sponge on top with the paste underneath.

No. But it will make them less noticeable.

It is perfect to use on silver plate. It is not abrasive, but do use the sponge provided. Rinse in warm soapy water, dry and buff with a soft cloth.

can i use this to polish silver serving trays?

I have never used it to polish a tray I have no doubt it could be used for that purpose but a piece of sponge larger than that which comes with the product would be helpful.
