I doubt if you'll better the value of these tools - especiallywith the 5 year guarantee, though I'm now looking at carbide tools!!!

They are a popular line & they are made from High Speed Steel. We have had no complaints & the only returns we have had, out of the hundreds of sets sold, is when people use the 20mm gouge they dig in to hard & it snatches. We have had 2 breakages replaced under warranty. They are made in China but are value for money. Feed back is quite good.

Do these chisels need sharpening before use? If so any recommendations of sharpening tools? Thanks!

These chisels are roughly ground to basic shapes and need to be properly sharpened before use. A bench grinder is the best way to achieve this. They are covered with a thick lacquer which will also need to be removed before use. Most importantly is that this set is designed for spindle turning NOT bowl turning. Turning bowls with spindle gouges is very dangerous.
