Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - (Xbox 360)

This games reputation does more than my review ever could.A ground breaking, record breaking, industry changing, revolutionary game no Xbox 360 owner can live without having in their collectionIt's the game that started the modern combat gaming off and what a kick start it provided.A gripping story, sensational and HUGELY immersive multiplayer. The graphics at the time (and now to a degree) were incredible and the gameplay is phenomenal. I can't count the amount of hours I've sunk into this game both offline and online - but fortunately the game can and it tells me over 6 months of continuous gameplay.Single player campaign takes you through 2 storylines. One of a new recruit for the British SAS doing several typical covert missions that the would be asked to do, the other through a Sgt Jackson of our American cousins doing what a marine would typically be asked to do.All this tied into a middle eastern terror plot which is absolutely believable.Online, you can choose your own weapon - when you've earned enough experience to unlock the one you want - and chose your own attachments - after you've used your weapon for long enough to start unlocking them.This system keeps you hooked and it's incredibly addictive.Although it's been several years since release, the community is still very much alive online. Although there are far fewer numbers and the majority of the people you will find will have been playing non stop for multiple years and will be hardcore veterans of the game so the learning curve will undoubtedly be a steep one.

This game got me in to the first-person shooter genre and indeed to like online console gaming. At the time this was out, I was only really aware of first-person shooters being set in World War times (previous Call of Duty games), or set far into the future, (such as Unreal Tournament). This was all well and good, however, there were too many of these types of games that it became hard to distinguish one from another.Then along came another Call of Duty game, but this time the setting wasn't some war set in history, but the present time. This allowed for so many changes to happen in the series. Modern gadgets and gizmos can be used, modern guns, modern environments and modern air artillery.The online multiplayer is excellent. Plenty of maps to battle in which can determine your gameplay style; fancy being sneaky? Then you can try being a sniper and hide in the covers of your camouflage, or if you want to get close to the action then you can choose to be an assault solider. Plenty of weapon customisation is present in this game, so you can fine tune your character until you are satsified they are balanced enough for your needs. There are many game modes which you can play, and this for me really is why I keep going back to these Call of Duty games; they offer great variety and replay value. I highly recommend this game, especially if you enjoy playing online on your console.

In its campaign Modern Warfare gives you a solid action game experience :* fast-paced and intense combat* plenty of variety in the gameplay* a wide range of scenarios and environments* weapons that have distinctive attributes* a good action-film like storyline* excellent difficulty balanceThe single-player campaign is long enough at about 8 hours, considering how intense and varied the gameplay is.In any case this is exactly the kind of game I enjoy replaying.Yes the game is "on-rails" but I don't care about that, if this was an RPG it might have bothered me but in action games I consider it irrelevant.

not going to rate the game. but I will say that on the xbox online most of the hackers are no existent in call of duty 4 right now (2014) well atleast this is a fact in free for all lobbies. as for cage match 75% of the games involve a hacker. team death match has a few more hackers in general. other game mode, I don;t know. but I will say avoid buying cod waw, that game is hacked to s*** on xbox 360.

What more is their to say about Call of duty 4 that hasn't already been said? Simply the best game of its kind even still after 7 years, this game lay the blueprint for modern fps with its groundbreaking and epicly made campaign. Online is a blast too as you'd expect! One of the best shooter games of all time if not the best!
