How to make USB OTG Adapter work on an Android device that does not support power out to this adapter!
I purchased this USB OTG Adapter in the hope that my Asus Memo Pad 7 ME173X tablet would connect easily to it. Unfortunately it was not recognised and it would not connect at all. So I did some Youtube research and found out that The Asus Memo Pad 7 does not supply a power output to make any USB OTG work at all. So I researched some more on Youtube and found out a technical trick to make the USB OTG work with the Asus tablet and possibly other Android devices that do not provide enough power to make an OTG Adapter work. Here are the main two steps.STEP 1.You must have a ROOTED Android device to make this work. I went into Play store and downloaded the following apps to the tablet. King Root and rooted my Asus tablet with one click. I installed Root Checker and verified my tablet was rooted. Then I installed StickMount which mounts the OTG USB once it's plugged into the tablet and finally ES File Explorer, this program lets you find and access anything connected to the OTG USB.....Phew!, a lot to install, but trust me it worked for me.STEP2.I purchased a cheap 4 x USB hub (£1.99) with a short USB cable. I then made a homemade USB male to USB male cable by joining two unused USB cables together which I had lying around (just connect the red and black cables, the green and white are not needed). I plugged one end of the homemade USB cable into my Asus tablet USB/mains charging plug adapter (to provide the power) the other end into any one of the four spare USB connections on the USB hub. I then connected the USB power lead leading out from the USB hub directly into the OTG USB adapter. Then I plugged a USB memory stick with movies, music, photos and a few documents to test out into the USB hub, then plug the OTG USB adapter into the tablet. If you have followed the steps precisely you should get a large symbol flash up in the middle of your tablet screen indicating a connection is made.Using StickMount, click 'mount', this will mount the OTG Adapter, then go into ES File Explorer and find the following path by selecting SD Card/USB Storage/sdb1/sda1. All being well you should now have access to the contents on your USB memory stick.I think this setup will work with most tablets and android phones if they don't have enough power to power up a USB OTG Adapter by themself. Earlier versions of some Android phones and tablets may not work though.I hope this lengthy instruction helps those who have struggled and failed to make the USB OTG Adapter work with their Android device..

More an Endorsement of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8"
This adapter works well with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" and provides it with a useful set of additional capabilities - but this is more to the credit of the Tablet than the adapter. I have used it to add the following:-1. Read and Write capability for USBstick memory devices - just plug it in and the tablet powers it and recognises it as an additional 'drive'.2. Read and Write capability for external USB HDD devices - with the proviso that the HDD unit requires an external power source.3. Read access to a digital camera which is useful for easy photo transfer - only tested with a Samsung WB700 and an Olympus VG-150, but should work with most cameras.4. Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse: I have a Logitech K260 Bluetooth KB/Mouse Combo and to use these with the GT3/8 simply plug the Bluetooth receiver into the tablet using the Adapter. You can then use the KB and Mouse much as you would on a desktop PC for launching Apps, entering text and so on - you can even use the 'Alt-Tab' key combination to cycle round the Running Apps...just like a PC!The KB also has a set of 8 so-called multi-media buttons above the numeric keys and some of these even work too - Volume Up/Down/Mute, Play/Pause, Home and Standby. It's amazing! In my view, the Galaxy Tab 3 8" is a VERY underrated Tablet - Samsung should make a lot more noise about it.PS:-The Adapter has now also been tested with a 6" GoTab 'Digit' tablet (a £65 'cheap-and-cheerful'), which provides a USB Host capability, and all these functions work too - so it would seem that provided your tablet has 'USB Host' capability (not all do) at least some of this extra utility could be yours for the asking.

Excellent and handy Device
After using this item for a few weeks, I've come to realise just how useful this little gadget is.I purchased it originally in order to test tethering from a digital SLR to an android Device (Samsung Galaxy S3).Upon receipt of the device, I immediately noted it's sturdy construction, short of ramming its micro USB connector into a rock (not recommended), I don't think you could damage it if you tried.Testing with a USB stick or aforementioned digital SLR Via cable (Nikon D800, big file sizes), transfer speeds were not hampered in any way. and the device operated flawlessly.A simple device, but the ability to transfer files directly to or from a USB stick using your Android Device, is definitely likely to come in handy on many occasions. And absolutely necessary if you want to make use of the readily available DSLR control apps on the android store. And the device is small enough that you can throw it in your bag and forget about it until you need it.I would definitely buy this again if ever mine were to go missing.

Length of cable
I liked the product but I wish the cable was longer, but overall I would recommend this product to other users...

which is good. Previous OTG's were looser and kept dropping connection
Arrived quickly and tested. I am able to move my images from Galaxy SII smartphone (Jelly Bean) to a Galaxy Tab 4 tablet (lollipop), using a high end flash drive, with no problem.Fitting is quite snug on both units, which is good. Previous OTG's were looser and kept dropping connection. Will use as a backup unit for file transfer if I lose my special micro usb drive while on the road.Update: After 6 months on the road (I'm a travel blogger) the adaptor gave me no trouble at all. I used it a lot. Well worth the price.
