Fantastic
3 year old Grandson absolutely loves this. You get what you pay for, initially bought a cheaper version but was absolutely rubbish and broke on arrival so we bought this. Barriers drop down when the magnetic train wheels go past and makes a clicking sound when they go past- great edition to the train track. Good quality as well.

Another great Brio idea
A birthday present for my grandson from his Great Grandmother. This is another really natty piece of track from Brio.As the train passes by, the gates drop down 'automatically' or can be lowered manually. It adds another dimension to the layouts with the road vehicles needing to stop at the level crossing and then going across the tracks when the train has gone by.Nice and sturdy manufacture and good quality as I have come to expect from Brio. Well worth the money.

Fantastic mechanical accessory
Sturdy construction and elegant magnetic operation. Manually place the barriers in the upward position and as the wheels of an engine or carriage pass by each magnetic lever is released allowing each barrier to free fall into place. Manual release on each barrier is also available by pressing the little button on each or simply flicking the barrier itself down. A competitor does make a crossing which has a crossings alarm but the gates on that are not automated in any way and that product required batteries- you pays your money and you takes your choice.

Sturdy, sometimes snags cars and disconnect them from train
Way sturdier than it seems, when the barriers are up it seems that a small misstep will snap them, but they are much tougher than they look. They can be lowered manually (by pulling the releases on top of the green boxes), or are lowered magnetically by the metal hubs of the wheels of passing trains. Bonus feature: each passing wheel rattles a bit and the sequence of these sounds creates a quite realistic train sound. The star off is because the magnets are a bit too strong, and will sometimes snag a passing train car (especially if it's a lighter one) and thereby disconnect half of the train.

LITTLE ONE ENJOYS
Goes together well with the train tracks, is well made and our nephew (2+) seems to enjoy it. Like the way the gates move as train goes through. Only thing is they open rather than close, which is a little odd to say the least, not that a 2 year old could care less. Lets hope he doesn't grow up thinking this is normal and gets a job as a signalman!

Works a treat!
This is a great add on to my son's train set. Most of his set is made by Bigjigs, but this fits in fine. After ready some negative reviews about the gates not closing, I bought the battery operated Brio train - which is great, but even his other trains work with it. He loves it, and the quality is great too.
