Is this compatible with a D3100?

I have a D5100 and the lens works perfectly with my camera. You should check this but my understanding is that our cameras are extremely similar and take the same lenses.The lens is excellent and perfect if you want crystal clear images without the hassle of changing lenses continuously. It is very well made, focuses quickly and is quite compact when set to 18mm. The lens is heavier than the cheaper 'Kit' lenses but this does not bother me. The advantages greatly outweigh this minor issue in my mind.I hope this helps.

The one I have recieved is making a noise when it focuses is this normal?

Use mine on a D500, which focuses very quickly. There is a small amount of noise associated with the lens engaging focus, but no more than what you get with all the other lenses I use. Suggest you compare with other lenses.

Hi, i'm looking for a not too expensive lens for my Nikon D3000 to use on indoor horse jumping. Has anybody used it for this.

Use bright lenses for indoor movement. 70-200 / 2.8 for example.
