Worked a treat for a complete novice
I have a trailer where the hub needs greasing via grease nipples. This item looked good value and so I took a punt. Never used one before. I’ve never used a grease gun and the instructions are a bit thin. It’s important you put the capped (having removed cap) of the cartridge in the gun first and not the foil end (having removed foil). So foil end will be towards the front when you screw the barrel to the gun. It’s not completely obvious but I removed the alun key bolt from the dispenser end of the gun to fit the attachments. What wasn’t apparent to me was you need to put that screw bolt thing in the other hole by the spring (air seal?). I didn’t and so grease emitted from there! Once sealed I was away. A mechanic friend recommended a good clean of the nipple you are applying grease to with brake cleaner and tissues. This can otherwise cause jamming issues with nozzle people may have suffered. The nozzle does seem to adjust if you twist the end. I twisted until I got a good snap on connection. Twiddling the nozzle in reverse seemed to free the nozzle easily when finished but I might be imagining that feature ! I’m a complete novice and was successful in using. I’d highly recommend for the price. Very well made in my view.

Small light weight, Nice for working in cramped spaces
Not bad, Nice for working in cramped spaces. Reports as an ENC thread?? Needed to put some grease in the W Barrow wheels, no attachment so bought the Gosknor Grease Gun Needle Nozzle Kit. magic, fits the thread perfect. Back to the Hilka grease gun, a little fiddly to get it started (As with every grease gun) but now good. Will not be buying the cartridges cause I have the larger ones I acquired, will be a little messy but Money Money. Small light weight. Only used it once but worked magic. Watch this space.

Compact, well made grease gun
Really good bit of kit. I was a little tentative having read other reviews, but decided to give it a punt anyway, and I'm glad I did. The intended use is for a petrol driven 'multi tool' (hedge trimmer, pruning chain saw, strimmer etc) and some of the attachments (like the hedge trimmer) have grease nipples. I didn't have a grease gun, so after a bit of research, ordered this with a couple of spare cartridges. As a novice grease gun user, I had no idea the cartridges came in different sizes (two, I think) and his gun takes the smaller, 3oz size. It seems well made, is a compact size and comes with a variety of attachments, including a flexible nozzle for those hard to reach places. There were no instructions, but actually, loading a cartridge in was quite intuitive, and not a messy affair. I simply unscrewed the cartridge container, slotted it the cartridge in and removed the foil seal on top. I extracted the plunger (not sure if this is the correct term) and used the locking mechanism to hold it back, screwed the container back on, then released the lock to the plunger pressed into the grease (it works a bit like those guns that are used for silicone bathroom sealant). A few squeezes on the trigger and hey presto, a measured amount of grease. The gun does have an air bleed screw, but I didn't have to use it and its working perfectly. So, for an occasional, DIY type user like me, this is exactly what I needed and works as it should.

My grease gun
Good value. Nice and small. But does the job. Something I'd hardly use. But very handy for wen I do need it.

Grease Gun.
Easy to assemble and to use. Please ensure you tighten all the fittings, using a spanner. Otherwise, when using, grease will leak out of the fittings and not go into the appliance you are greasing. Good little item.

Solid piece of kit, useful adapters and extenders, but no instructions supplied, poor design features
I bought this kit to grease my bicycle. The item is well built,, and even comes with a grease cartridge, though the pistol grip mechanism is a little stiff and needs repeated use to loosen up. Annoyingly, the piston lock can't be twisted or altered to leave it open, so in order to use it constant pressure has to be maintained, or the user should use slightly less than full strokes to stop it locking out at the top of each stroke. The main problem for a novice user is the lack of instructions. As in NONE WHATSOEVER. I found it easy to fit the cartridge (it only inserts one way) and to remove the foil cap. It took me ages to work out that you have to pump the piston and squirt the pistol grip ATTHE SAME TIME in order to move grease though the mechanism. Otherwise it simply pumps nothing. Ten or so strokes of both at once (you'll feel as though you need three hands at first, because of the irritating lock mechanism) and you should see grease coming out of the nozzle. At this point, choose your extender and fit tightly and repeat the procedure to move grease to the delivery point. Inevitably, this is a slippery, messy job so it is best done outdoors with a rag or some kitchen towel readily to hand. Second, the supplied flexible hose is very difficult to screw in tightly in order to make an airtight seal, because the pistol mechanism is in the way. the result is messy leaking and having to hand-tighten repeatedly, making more mess. Use the rigid metal extender if you can, it can easily be tightened with pliers or a small spanner. The metal extender is well made and strong and fits together nicely and the universal adapter link supplied worked well with my Chris King greasing tool, so greasing my bearings was very easy once I had the gun working properly. The job I had was quite small, so a few squirts on the trigger completed proceedings. I imagine that from time to time, with a bigger job, you might need to repeat the simultaneous pumping procedure described above to deliver more grease. There is an Allen key bolt on top of the main body to bleed air I pour of the system but I left that fully tightened when loading and had no problems with air bubbles so far. It's a cheap, sturdy, convenient bit of kit but: 1) It is unforgivable that it doesn't come with instructions and that there are none on Hilka's website either. It took me nearly 45 minutes to figure it out and should have taken 5-10 minutes with even basic instructions. 2) The piston lock is crude, and badly designed. 3) The Allen key air valve is annoying. The last thing you want with greasy hands is to go back to your toolbox to find the correct key. I see no reason why this could't have been a knurled nut, that could then be finger-tightened. Therefore three stars only.

Good grease gun
Instructions could be clearer on how to remove air blocks before the gun works. Watch some YouTube videos before you try this one.
