From the Publisher Covering everything from periods and breast development to mood swings, self-esteem and personal hygiene These reassuring guides will boost confidence and encourage children aged 9+ to feel positive about the changes they will experience as they go through puberty A Girls' Guide to Growing Up also includes lifestyle advice on topics like healthy eating and exercise, as well as information on how puberty affects the opposite sex Review: Made difficult conversations much easier - I cannot recommend this book highly enough! As a parent, I was dreading having "the talk" with my daughter about puberty and all the changes coming her way, but this book made everything so much easier and more natural. My daughter absolutely loves the format. It's friendly, reassuring, and written in a way that speaks directly to girls her age without being patronising or too clinical. The book covers topics ranging from periods and breast development to mood changes and self-esteem, and everything is explained so clearly and sensitively. The illustrations are perfectly age-appropriate and help make potentially awkward topics feel completely normal. What really impressed me was how this book opened up conversations between us that I wasn't sure how to start. We've been reading sections together, and she now feels comfortable asking me questions about things that might have felt too embarrassing before. She even picks it up on her own to read bits she's curious about, which shows how engaging and accessible it is. The content strikes the perfect balance. It's comprehensive without being overwhelming, and it addresses worries about what's "normal" in such a reassuring way. I love that it also includes information about how puberty affects boys and touches on self-esteem and body image, making it a really well-rounded guide. 5 stars. Review: Very good book - This is a great book and we highly recommend it, my 9 year old found it extremely useful and easy to read to herself, though we did read it together cover to cover when it first arrived. It has great illustrations and isn’t too daunting. Very useful and helpful book.

An exceptional tool to help children understand their bodies
This book is a must have for any parent with a daughter who is reaching the age of puberty. It covers the basics of body changes with kindness and straightforwardness, including topics like breast development, periods, hygiene, nutrition, and emotional ups and downs. It’s insightful and completely age appropriate. It’s easy enough to understand so your child can read alone, but it’s also a great tool for parents to help explain things in what can sometimes be a difficult conversation.

A great book for younger kids (8-10), not the period page though
The only drawback is that it does not explain periods well, all scientific info without simply saying that it is a monthy bleed from your vagina. If you don't already know about periods you would not understand what they are from this explanation, see a photo of the page. We bought the 4 books in my photos for our 8.5yo and although this book in particular is pretty simplistic I think we will wait until she is 9. I think this one is best for 9-10 range, have returned Puberty for Tween Girls as that one ir very wordy is def better for 11yo+. Keeping What's Happening to Me simply because it explains periods so much better and has some extra info on all topics. All these books explain sex but kids between 9 and 10 are generally ready for that info (it gets covered in year 5 at school and I feel it is better if it comes from parents before the school explains it so they feel they can approach the parents in regards to this subject).

Great for pre teen
Great book for my pre-teen. Informative but not too scary. This is something we can read together or she is happy to read by herself.

Very good and informative
I bought couple of books, both for me and my daughter, they were very helpful to understand all the hormonal changes she is going through. Happy with it.

This is the perfect little book for my fourth-grade daughter. So glad I bought it. I wanted her to be informed about human biology as she will enter middle school next year, but I wasn't sure how to explain everything from periods, matters and details of hygiene, to how babies are made without making her (or me, maybe) feel awkward. I have mom friends who are great at such explanations, while I have to think for quite some time how to say what and when. As she is reading the book, I can now talk to her about the content. She likes reading it so far. The content covers everything from the body changes to expect from puberty to where babies come from in short, factual, effective, child-appropriate, and friendly phrasing. The author succeeds at making girls feel normal about their soon-to-change bodies and gives them the information they need to understand what is going on. The illustrations show enough to support the text but without making the reading experience "weird." It is an informative book that even featured a fact or two (about the brain) that I wasn't aware of. Overall, the book normalizes puberty and girl's bodies, assures girls that they have control (to shave or not, to use different menstrual products that suit them, to continue sports), leaves room for inclusion (girls might find themselves thinking about a boy or a girl as they get older), addresses that boys undergo significant changes too, and provides the groundwork for other discussions we need to have with our kids as they grow older (it mentions that adults may use birth control to not have babies but does not go into detail).

I was a little nervous to talk about all the 'birds and the bees', although I know its completely natural, it was still a little daunting. A friend I worked with recommended this book as she read it with her daughter, so I thought 'why not give it a go?'. I am so glad I did! My daughter and I would read a page or two before bed. It's illustrations were great to help understand the words better (for her) and it's written in a subtle, yet honest way (which I really appreciated). If you have a daughter who is currently going through the early stages (or even through it now) of puberty, I truly recommend this purchase. Very happy with this purchase - I have even leant it to a friend.

My daughter uses this book all the time. As a mom of a preteen it’s nice to know she’s getting correct information to answer questions she has that she may be too embarrassed to ask out loud. We go through it together sometimes if she doesn’t understand, but mostly she goes through it on her own and says it’s been really helpful! It’s lighthearted and funny at times which is nice since it can be a heavy intimidating concept for young girls.
