Brilliant
One of the best films to come out of Australia . Brilliant cast, well written and a great story. This is a classic (and my Australian wife agrees!)

Great hidden gem
Loved this movie. Super quirky hidden gem story of an Australian family. Hilarious and now one of my favourites.

Excellent value comedy film!
A great, classic Aussie film, the humour is world-wide. Excellent value for money, and prompt service. An old family favourite!

Funny and inspiring
It was a good film about an ordinary man and his family finding the courage to stand up against injustice perpetrated by powerful people. About standing on one's principles. Four stars because of invoking the name of deity as a swear word - that just doesn't lend anything to the story line, so why put it in and offend people unnecessarily? For that reason I wouldn't pass it on, but enjoyed a laugh and the inspiration it provided in other respects. Four stars for laughs and inspiration to have the moral courage to stand up for what is right.

Hilarious and with a good Auz heart!
The film looks like it's straight out of the late 80's, there so many mullets and ice washed denim on show and I was suprised to see it was made quite a bit later. The family are definitley from the lower income bracket but their heart and great, often accidental humour puts them well above royalty. I especially loved the way the father always lovingly compliments his wife on the supper, asking how ever did she make it, even when it's ice cream form the tub. This is a charming and and very funny film about the small man taking on the law and...well I won't spoil the film for you, I can't recommend it enough!

It's the vibe of it!
I was delighted to find this film on DVD, having seen it at the home of some Australian friends. While the accent may require a little habituation at first if you've never been there, there are English subtitles (always a huge help to the older ear, anyway). My friends weren't sure I'd "get" the humour until I told them--I grew up around people just like Darryl's family! It's a film that doesn't get old with the watching. Though the language is a bit strong in places, it's not overt, and the actors are excellent. It's hilarious and silly without being cringe-making. It's going straight into the poolroom, in the "feelgood films" section!

It’s a classic
After watching this movie on YouTube several times (can’t stream it in the UK) finally bought on DVD. Worth it. DVD arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

Don't be fooled by the very minor award. This film is trite.
This is not and never has been Ausralia favourite film. It won an Australian film of the year award, which is hardly a major achievement. Such tough competition to beat, such as "Welcome to Whoop Whoop" and "Under the Lighthouse Dancing".Boring, slow motion, predictable, narrated plod,A bunch of happy stupid people living in a shack next to an airfield. They are ordered to move and refuse. They meet with their idiot neighbours and employ an idiot lawywer. The dialogue is a as simple as the characters. What's most badly missing, is any emotional energy. The entire cast behave as if they are permantly tranquilised.I hated the long periods of robotic narration.References to aboriginal land rights, clearly do not travel. Also as this film is a spin off of an aussie TV programme, there are no doubt references to some established humour that I could not identify with. All this film is, is an opportunity for depraved viewers to laugh at a phoney pervert image of those who are intellectually challenged and slow of mind. You are not laughing with them, or at funny situations, you are expected to laugh at them personally. I find this extremely repellent. It is the sad pathetic mindset of the playground bully. If you are looking for a lesser known top quality comedy from down under, I strongly recommend Macolm as an alternative.

Ooo, one for the pool room
Its Aussie and its crazy. I have a friend who travels routinely to the South Pacific and Australia. According to him, this is the movie you must see before traveling to Australia.

Get yourself the video. You won't regret it!
Oh my I have never seen such a sweet video. Laugh? You just can't help it. The innocence of it all. Have lent this video to so many friends who say the same thing,"A touching, funny, simplistic but lovely take on life and it's problems. Quite the family. Have watched it several times. Wish I could have given it 10 stars.
