Point it: Traveller's Language Kit

Point it-travellers language kit-very useful
Great idea, and actually helped us out in China. I admittedly thought it was more of a novelty than something of use. Very cleverly put together and clearly updated with newer items such as iPads. So simple yet so effective. Well done Dieter Graff! Would definitely recommend, especially if travelling further afield. Certainly small and light enough (it's more like a booklet with double staples in middle holding it together.) just to slip in your luggage in case needed. Will be taking it to our next meeting with our european friends as an ice breaker!

Useful resource
This book was recommended to me by a Speech Therapist, for use by a man who has had a stroke. The gentleman in question has found it very useful, in shops, when he can't get the words out, and the co-ordinator of our Stroke Group, at which I am a volunteer, has ordered more for other members. A very useful resource, and a handy size for slipping in a bag or pocket.

Can't praise this book highly enough
This is the fourth copy of this book that I've bought. Every time a friend tells me they're going off to travel around the world I give them my copy as I know how useful it will prove to them. I have used this book abroad myself numerous times and find it to be invaluable. I never catch a flight abroad without it.

Small book, useful to have in restaurants.
Very useful book for a recent trip to Japan. Some of the pictures are a little small and it's questionable on whether some of them are really required. I did use this book a few times in restaurants and found it useful to order food.Overall I found this book useful as it was small enough to take with me everywhere for use just in case I needed it.

bought for someone recovering from a brain operation
bought this for someone recovering from a serious brain operation. although some pics are irrelevant for him being confined to home for the moment, much of the book is very useful for him to communicate to his wife with. If you know someone in the same situation, this is a tiny price to pay for a really handy little tool.

Carrying this book is like carrying a concealed weapon - you really don't want to have to use it, but just knowing it's in your pocket gives you the confidence to walk into a bar full of very foreign foreigners and start making hilarious attempts at using their language. If you're carrying Point It, you know you've got backup :)

A fine idea in principle
I bought this book to use on my summer cycle camping tour in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary as I spoke no Slovakian and Hungarian and my German is best described as 'lesson two' competence. I found that I didn't need to use the book at all as I discovered that I knew more German than I thought I did to enable me to ask for directions and understand the replies, book into camp sites and understand the menus in restaurants. German was also a secondary language in Slovakia and Hungary. Where I had to resort to using German, it was because I couldn't find English speakers. So, although the book promised to be very useful, its usefulness diminishes when there is a common language spoken no matter how rudimentary. In addition some of the pictures are, from recollection, arbitrarily chosen and of limited value.I'm considering booking a tour to the hinterlands of Japan or China where there's no likelihood of commonality of spoken tongue to get my money's worth out of this modestly priced publication.

Restaurant owners have found the book amusing and we've had some great meals as a result
My husband and I both bought a copy for our trip to China via the 'Stans and Mongolia. While most places we found enough English-speaking people to get by, the book has proved its worth in negotiating menus in remote areas. Restaurant owners have found the book amusing and we've had some great meals as a result.
