An amazing game, hours and hours of enjoyable gameplay
An amazing game, hours and hours of enjoyable gameplay. Story had me gripped and it was hard to put it down, I just wanted to know what happened next! Both the artwork and soundtrack are again, superb! A fantastic edition to the already established 'Tales Series' As a JRPG Fan, this one ticked every box for me!

Great game but not current gen graphics
Game is great. Charming as all the tales games. Likeable characters and great combat. But if you're interested in graphics you'll be disappointed. Graphics look like EARLY PS3 graphics. Not a major issue for me except when there are great scenery scenes and I think how great it would look in true ps4 graphics and that disappoints me. That's the only little nag from other wise a great game.

Tedious and boring JRPG
I tried hard to like this game, went into it 10 hours or so, but the boring plot, sappy characters and drivelling dialogue, inconsequetial inanity, killed any enjoyment . I enjoy going to the dentist more than playing this tedium. The world is quite bland, a bush here, maybe a tree there, an enemy patrolling their small plot, etc. Battles are a mess with button mashing galour, trying to get, let alone remember, the combos. Compared to Witcher 3 this game is awful. I really got fed up with all the information, droning on hour after hour, artes this, combo that, seraphim whatever. Why not make the battle system intuitive and free flowing? Playing these drippy games as the bad guy would make all the difference, how much more fun would it be to squash Sorey and his annoying band of nobodies, as the insects they are under the Lord of Malevolence's Size 40 boot? The so salled bonus content is a rip off as it is valid as a 1 month window 2015 only. Can't wait for FF VII remake, FF XV, Star Ocean or any quality RPG. If you like bland, insipid and boring games then Tales of zzzz Zestiria (yawn) is the one.

Xillia and Xillia 2 were both pretty good; not as a addictive as Graces but ...
I was really looking forward to this game, as I do every Tales game. Xillia and Xillia 2 were both pretty good; not as a addictive as Graces but still fun. Zestiria is a disappointment. Boring characters, a storyline that is the textbook definition of 'fantasy stock' and - certainly in comparison to older Tales games - a somewhat lackluster battle system. Its still fun (thank Christ because this game has nothing else going for it) but not as fun as Graces and Xillia. Different characters handle differently in combat, which is a plus, but the system encourages you to 'armatize' too often for my liking. I much prefer fighting with the maximum of four characters rather than going down to two. At least its harder. Bosses can be a challenge and hit pretty hard, especially on higher difficulty settings. Now for more of what I DON'T like: HP - You need to collect spheres from bosses and mini bosses to boost HP. Good luck trying to backtrack to do that because the story prevents you returning to certain previous areas and will charge you insane amounts of gald to go back to the few areas you CAN get to. You can level grind but it won't do anything for you apart from increase your Title proficiency and let you learn new artes, based on said title. Titles - I loved the title system in Graces. It was one of the most addictive things about the game. Here, your 'proficiency' in a title goes up with your level and lets you learn new artes. That's it. Oh, and you have set stat and utility boosts depending on your proficiency level but you need that title equipped to get its effect. Terrible system. Bring back Graces titles, I say. Equipment - Who the hell came up with this system?? Not only is it unnecessarily complicated, but its also completely RANDOM. Shop stock is random; monster drops are random. With the 'luring' skill, you can get more of what you might want but there are still no guarantees. Its completely pointless fusing equipment as you'll need so many pieces to get past +10. The only time to bother grinding a decent set of equipment would be end game. I wouldn't even bother for most of the story. Just slap on whatever you get as you progress. All of this adds up to a disappointing experience, to be honest. I'll finish it because I paid for it but I don't expect to be spending any grade at all for a replay. Hopefully, the next Tales installment will give back some of that old addictive gameplay... In all, I have to say I'm disappointed. This was one of the reasons why I bought a PS4 in the first place.

Half-baked game.
I've played this game for about 25 hours now. I but I can't bring myself to play it anymore. I've loved Tales games since Tales of Symphonia. And have played every single one since. I'm finding this game dull to play. The areas are large, but bland and empty. Being a Tales fan, graphics have never been a high priority for me, but this game just feels lazy. I'm talking lag during battle (I'm playing on the PS4) trees/bushes/grass and enemies popping up suddenly on the map etc. So far I haven't seen any sidequests, no sign of character costumes (that aren't paid DLC) There is also no 'Affection' system that probably would've been a nice touch. No skill trees for personalized leveling up... Treasure chests have boring loot (like ice cream) They've got a fusion system similar to Tales of Graces, but with only a fraction of the options. I also really miss having a choice of who to have in battle. I'm putting this game down for now. I'm hoping Tales of Berseria will refresh the Tales series.

Bought for a friend who loves the Tales series. Hes been playing it non stop since Christmas and really enjoying the story. If your a fan of Tales games it would seem to be worth it! I've never played any of them however but I'm quite a gamer but this isn't my kinda thing. However 5 stars because its not for me, it was for a friend and they are over the moon with it!
