S138 Socket Set of 138 Metric & AF 1/4in 3/8in & 1/2in Drive

I was a car mechanic out of college and have had various socket sets over the last 30 years, from Snap-on, Hazet, Facom Teng etc which over the years have gone for a walk. Now I have and normally use Halfords Pro sockets which have a lifetime warranty but they're not exactly the best sockets I have used. Their ratchets have a large dwell angle between clicks which can make limited clearance jobs a bit of a pain. Ratchet handles: This bahco set feels very solid in the hand and the ratchets do not have loads of lateral movement in the drive square which cheaper ones can suffer from. The ball catch is nice and positive and holds the attachment well. They're a shotblasted finish rather than shiny chrome which I like. They have orange and black rubber grips which can pick up a lot of dirt and grease from your handset but a quick squirt of brake cleaner takes it off well. Sockets: There are a good selection and they are six pointers rather than the 12 or 18 point ones you sometimes see which means they are sometimes more difficult to seat over the bolt/nut but offer a much better grip and more torque transfer to the fixing, they're also much less likely to slip off. The spark plug spanners are not thin wall ones and will not fit into the spark plug well of some engines. I had to buy a set of Laser thinwall ones for a Mitsubishi 3.5 GDi engine. Luckily Amazon sell them and they were on prime next day. The inclusion of a set of crow's foot spanners is nice and they can come in very handy. The deep 1/4 drive sockets are a welcome addition too. Spanners: A good set of combination spanners that have a nice angle on the ring end and fit nice and positively. I like the fact the spanner set can be removed from the main case in one go. It's a simple twist and lock to secure into the lid. Case: Nice and solid blow moulded case with nice metal spring clips to hold it closed. The handle does not come apart with half a handle on either side of the case so if you lift it up without the lid secured then all the contents of the socket half will spill out everywhere. There is a plastic foam coated divider between the two halves of the case which snaps shut into the lid to cover the extension bars and the spanners. It has a legend printed on it so you can see where everything should go. the only gripe I have is that it fits very tightly into the lid and can be difficult to open. Overall I prefer this set to my Halfords Professional ones as they feel much more solid in the hand. These really feel like a decent quality set and I'd buy these every time over a Halfords set despite their lifetime warranty.

I have it for quite few years now and used it to work on my motorcycle and car all the time. Good quality, nothing broken after 8 years of use, the range of sockets/bits... very good.

Bought it for car repairs, complete tool kit in 1 box. All the useful sizes, ratchets are good quality and tough.All sockets are single hex, so good for not rounding nuts/bolt heads. esp on motorcycles. (Alloy castings and steel bolts can be fun). Sockets go up to 32mm and down to 4mm . Adaptors and a flexi drive mean you can in o just about anywhere. really good bit of kit, love it.

Very nice case and good set of tools. I have not used it that many times so dont feel qualified to extensively comment on it. I used it for spark plug changes, air filter changes and minor DIY on BMW 1987 325i SPORT (E30) classic car. BAHCO are owned by SNA Europe. They are a division of SNAP-ON. Halford Advanced socket set are also worth looking at especially when they are on sale for example, Black Friday or Christmas etc.

Can you get excited about a tool set? It this case, yes! Love it. This is a really great set and well worth the money. I've owned various other smaller socket sets, but decided to go for a comprehensive set that all sits in one case. It has something for most circumstances when working on a mk2 Golf. Bacho are owned by Snap-On and the same case is used on Snap-On's Blue Point Service socket set, the case really is good and holds everything well. I will put the set through its paces and amend my review if needs be, but, the quality is evident to see.

An easy five stars for this remarkably good value set. The ratchets are a joy to use, really smooth and with a very narrow space between ratchet teeth it is easy to get onto the next "click". The only slight downside is that once the handles get covered in grease it is difficult to clean them but who cares? Tools that get used will always look a bit grubby! The finish on the sockets etc is excellent and even the very small driver and torx bits feel like far more expensive tools than they are. Can't fault anything about this kit. I have now started buying only Bahco stuff and it is all really good quality.

Dont bother, ive had a mostly positive experience with bacho tools in the past apart from this set. 21mm socket split straight down the middle when trying to remove wheel nuts from a transit van. Ended up using a much cheaper brand to get the job done. 1/4 drive ratchet sliped from the get go and have being completely ignored by customer service.

Good stuff, but the only issue I found is that the 1/2 ratchet is frozen and won't ratchet. All other stuff I'm in love with. just that small detail. Was able to to release the ratcheting design. Now all is 100% functional

I only gave this 4 stars for the ambiguity of the original manufacturer, which I believe now to be Taiwan. That said, there is nothing wrong with these tools. They have served me fine from the expected automotive, farm, and industrial sides of things, to the unexpected daily construction and electrical jobs here and there. They are heavy solid tools with superb design. My father is a strict Snap-on, Mac, Matco, and proto professionally yet he was impressed with these tools. Among some of the small details he picked out are; the fact that the screwdriver handle was very comfortable and had the added benefit of the 1/4" drive adapter in the back for the use with the ratchet. All the ratchets are solid and have very nice smooth action *all are also 60 teeth*. the rubber was very grippy even when oiled and greased up, but yet easy to clean with silicone spray and a cloth. He was very impressed with the 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor that was also the t-handle slide bar unit which allowed the 1/2" extensions to be the slide bar of the T handle. He thought that stuff was all very clever. For me this set is fantastic. I had always thought the blow-molded sets were cheesy, but in reality, this is very well made and adds the benefit of organization. This set is easy to maneuver and fits in the trunk of my hatchback beetle with my Williams 1/4" set and dedicated AF set of the same case size. Wish they would have put deep metric sockets in the AF section as I have an AF Williams set 50611 which works excellently to compliment this set. Only thing I added was I bought a Carlisle 1/2" breaker bar from a Local NAPA to have one in the set. I also liked the wrenches, they are of a design similar to the Mac and newer Snap-on Wrenches making them very comfortable due to the squared sides; sounds silly but you turn wrenches all day and then tell me it doesn't matter! In summation, This is a fantastic set. Cannot go wrong for professional and amateur alike. Well made, well housed, and most importantly well designed.
