Are the tops of these socks elasticated/tight? I'm looking to buy them for an elderly gentleman and due to sore calves I wonder if they are suitable?

Nope, no elastic in these. Just the natural wool to hold them up. In full highland dress you would add the sock flashes, with their elastic, to hold them up.

I’m 183cm and they had more than enough length to fold to the proper length under the knee .
