Best Bang for Your Buck!
These Opticron Oregon 8x42 binoculars are a great value. They are very well built with quality rubber armor that is easy to grip. The comfortable eye cups are easily adjustable and stay put. The view is clear and bright with good contrast. There is plenty of eye relief at 22nm. The objective eye covers and rain guard are decent quality and stay in place, as well as the case and neck strap. The only knock on these binoculars is the slight bit of glare while viewing towards the direction from which the sun is shining but not directly in the sun. I’ve mostly used Steiner AF binoculars for hunting but decided to buy a pair of roof prism binoculars for birding. I’ve tried several pairs of higher quality binoculars costing over twice as much, but these Opticron Oregons provide the most comfortable view. Overall, I’m impressed, and they come with a lifetime warranty to boot.

Sharp!
Great binoculars, very clear and easy to focus. Not too heavy either.

Cornell University is correct
Wow! These binoculars provide a super clear and crisp view. Quickly and easily zoom in and zoom out. I can now see amazing detail that I never did see with my two old pairs even when they were brand new. An amazing value for such quality. These binoculars feel like they will last a lifetime.

Wow. A no-brainer choice with some qualifications.
Brief comparison of 3 binoculars purchased on Amazon and compared side-by-side over a few weeks. Purchased to help us watch soccer games from the back of the stadium, I also like to look at landscape and cityscape architecture. I am not a strong birder but will certainly be doing some of that. Looking at a finch on my feeder up close through binoculars was pretty great. I look forward to looking at seabirds especially pelicans.Opticron Oregon Oasis 8x42 $154 amazon warehouseCelestron Trailseeker 8x42 $285Kowa BD II XD 8x42 $449Size, shape, comfort: They are pretty similar. The Celestron is definitely heavier with the weight out near the the large objective lenses which is noticeable and seems fatiguing. The barrels are larger and slightly uncomfortable in my large hands. Stiffest focusing wheel. The Opticron is pretty neutral. The eye cups are firm and a bit uncomfortable. Nice focusing ring. The Kowa has a great balance. The smaller diameter barrels, surface rubber and contours make this a sensous joy to hold. Easily our favorite.Image. Again pretty similar. The Celestron dials into quick focus but seems to require effort from my eyes to make things look clear and sharp. Fatiguing to use.The Opticron image is excellent in bright light but less vibrant and more dim at dusk and looking into shadows. There is a slight tunnel vision sensation. The image is very slightly soft. Field-of-view is narrower but not terrible. The Kowa is very engaging, immersive and three-dimensional. The best of all 3 looking into shadows and in dim light. Following a darting dragonfly requiring continual focus adjustments was quite amazing. So, you get what you pay for, sorta. The Opticron is ridiculously good for the price. We are keeping it. The Kowa is simply a joy. Guess we will keep this also. The Celestron was disappointing. It goes back.Hands-on testing is the way to go.

Great! Finally a binocular I can use...
After returning two pairs of binoculars to two different stores, I bought these based on great reviews of these as "budget" binoculars. I thought I wanted smaller profile binocs, but I couldn't focus the darned things. These work perfectly for me (old 78-year-old with Panoptix IOLs). I can see the birds out my windows and the owls and eagles in the park. They don't weigh that much carrying around for a short time. I am very happy with these.
