Bought this as a replacement for my mums previous one however we’ve found that 20mm in her old measure equates to just over 40mm in this one! Ideas?

I can only say that from my experience any rain gauge of this type can't give accurate levels and depends on which way the wall/fence faces when showers are directed by wind. The only real indicators are those which are ground mounted and are not surrounded by buildings. I take the readings as an approximate indicator.

Does the scale account for the taper? It looks like the distance from 20 to 30 is the same as the distance from 120 to 130 (but it shouldn't be).
