AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT VERY HIGH QUALITY I am very by this item excellent recording very reliable must read manual. The quality recording is excellent and can be easily read by pc. The HDMI IN AND OUT VERY RELIABLE. EXCELLENT MENU AND INTERFACE. The material recorded on PC cannot be read on the machine. There is editing facility and you can record full movie without being divided into 5 files as other HDMI RECORDERS. This was a big bonus to me as I tried other HDMI recorders and they divide the movie to 6 files and to edit to 1 movie is big pain. Ithink this AVERMEDIA IS EXCELLENT MACHINE AT VERY GOOD PRICE THANKS AVERMEDIA

Recording of HDCP content with Avermedia ER130
The device is intended for recording gameplay videos from a PS3 / PS4 / XBox etc as it connects via HDMI and has a HDMI pass-through port for connection to your TV / Monitor. I did not purchase the device for this reason as like many people out there, I wished to make copies of HD broadcast / HD recordings on my satellite set-top box, since while you can record onto a DVD using a DVD/HDD recorder via. SCART- the content will be recorded in standard definition and to boot such recorders normally use composite video for the video signal which is poor and results in a soft/fuzzy display on modern full HD capable displays. There is no "off the shelf" solution to recording HD content from your set-top box as the manufacturers encrypt the video using HDCP, which allows content to only be viewed on display devices ie. a TV or a monitor. There-in lies the problem- HDCP encryption is applied by most HDMI sources such as a Sky+ HD box... The Avermedia ER130 will not allow for the recording of HDCP encrypted content (No matter which version of the firmware you load), which would ordinarily render the device useless as far as using it as a modern day VCR for recording your TV programs... However there is a work around... I purchased a HDMI splitter (iSolem 2 Way HD splitter) in the belief that this would strip HDCP as per some of the review- IT DOES NOT. Likewise the device itself warns you that you've connected it to a splitter so far from it- splitters sold on Amazon and the like in the UK will pass on the HDCP encryption. Though I still use it, as on output is fed to my AV receiver to enjoy full quality sound the other output of the splitter is fed into equipement will convert the signal to analogue and back again thereby stripping the HDCP. The conversion involves the use of: 1 x HDMI -to- RGB Component box (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A8FIQXA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) 1 x RGB Video Cable with Stereo Audio (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01D5H8C4K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) 1 x RGB Component -to- HDMI box (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0088HO1UC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Its a bit of a clunky work around - but it works- very well, especially for the purposes of recording things off say a Sky+ HD box. The Sky+ HD box even on HDMI maxes out a 1080i resolution in any case, which consequently is the maxium resolution supported using analogue RGB a.k.a Component connections. On older Sky+ HD Boxes there are RGB/Component connections on the back of the box (Red, Green and Blue) - not to be confused with the inferior Composite output (Yellow RCA/phono socket). So when fed into the Avermedia ER130 in this way, it completely bypasses the quite frankly stupid and irritating HDCP nonsense and allows you to make copies of broadcast and recorded content like you did before using a VCR/VHS Tape back in the day- except now your recordings will be full HD at the same quality as the Sky Box itself - with the exception that the audio would be stereo and not multi-channel if the broadcast was originally multi-channel; not really a big deal to be honest! The industry frowns on this, but I don't see how recording HD broadcast content is any different to when TV was recording onto VHS tapes and later HDD's / DVDs?! Especially when you may want to make a copy of a news broadcast, or TV program that will not be aired again in the foreseable future! The above work around was an inconvience and additional expense but was not the cause of the device to loose 1 star on its review. No, this was caused by compatibility with recording media... There is no storage on this device, so you'll need a USB hardrive (External HDD or SSD). I tried using a USB 3.0 Thumb Drive (32Gb) but despite the device only having a USB 2.0 port it stated that the thumb drive was not fast enough and refused to record- despite its actual transfer rates being faster than USB 2.0. So I had to purchase an external HD (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GQPXBQC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). With the External SSD drive attached (Also USB 3.0) recording was possible and I am pleased with the quality and performance of the video recording. It will also work with a traditional mechanical hardrive connected via USB, I just went for the SSD as the device will be repeatidly removed and transported I like the fact that SSDs are more protected against shock / rough handling, in addition to being much faster when transferring recordings. In terms of recording Full HD content at 1080i, there were three options available and the data used for a test recording is as possible. BEST - Works out to be 108 Megabytes per minute of video FINE - 90 Megabytes per minute of video GOOD - 72 Megabytes per minute of video. To be honest with a recording off a HD TV channel, there was little discernable difference between BEST and GOOD when recording at 1080i, so it would be a question on how much storage space you have and the importance of the recording. Nonetheless, the setting is easy to change in the settings. I found on mine that a watermark was added to the videos- this too can also be disabled in the settings giving you a nice clean recording. Once you get the device connected and working as described above it can be considered as a modern replacement for the venerabel VCR / DVD recorder! It just takes some additional cost/eqipment to do so, and I would that this would be the case for other so called "Game capture" devices whether they be stand alone of linked to your PC/Mac as the HDCP encryption will always scupper them when used on their own.

No way! It's impossible to record HDMI signals from TV Box or PS3.

Its OK but not for critical recordings.
I use it attached to a video camera's HDMI output. It appeared to work OK when tested but failed to finalise on at least one continuous recording of over an hour, so it got lost. The device just locked up. I'm not sure I would trust it with anything critical. Also getting the external storage to work wasn't that easy for me. Mine is an almost exclusively Apple environment so the required NTFS format is tricky. It is a shame that there is no obvious re-format option for storage it doesn't like.

Recommended.
Very Satisfied. Quality of HD recording is good and the device is easy to set up. USB flash drives don't work well with it and are not recommended by the manufacturer but it works fine with USB hard drive (1TB = about 100 hours = 10GB/hour) and the hard drive can be ejected, connected to a computer and and the MP4 file copied and played on other devices. I had a small problem at the beginning in identifying that my new USB 3 Western Digital 1TB HDD was supplied formatted for "GPT" (this is not supported by the device) but needed reformatting as "MBR + NTFS" then it worked fine (I used "EaseUs Partition Master Free" for this). So far recorded video of 90 min continuous (max recommended 60 min) without problem. The device can only play recordings it has made itself, so if you take a recording and then edit it on another device it will not play it (at least using my video editing software). With the video editing on the device via the remote control you can relatively easily cut out/ trim portions of the recording.. I have not yet tested the timer record function.

So far so good with this product. I got it to replace the Avermedia PCI capture card in my desktop PC. After the initial setup, I've tested it out and it has worked perfectly each and every time. Please be advised. If you're planning to record via HDMI, and the content has HDCP, this device will not work for you...without buying another device. I'm using a 256GB mSATA drive enclosed in a USB 3.0 case. After formatting the drive properly, it recognized the drive and records to it at the highest bitrate. I did notice that the firmware was out of date, so I was also able to download that to my "hard drive" and installed that via the firmware update option in the settings menu. Also of note, I set up a 1 time schedule to record a show. I wanted to test and see if it would work after I powered the ER130 off. It turns the ER130 on automatically 5 minutes before the scheduled recording. It records for the time you set, and then turns back off when it is complete. That is a fantastic setting and it is good to know I don't need to remember to have it turned on to record scheduled programs. A+ so far. I will update if I run in to any problems or concerns.

The hard drive in my Bell PVR died and I couldn't get another drive to work with it, so I got one of these and it works great. I use a cheap component to HDMI converter from the PVR to the EzRecorder though. I did get an HDMI splitter, but didn't bother trying it yet cuz it's not my main TV, and it looks fine the way it is. Anyway, this thing works great, and is the only unit I saw that would allow you to record and play back, all from the little box and an external drive. It came with a usb stick, but it didn't work worth a damn to record to, so maybe it was just for updating the unit, but I didn't bother trying to do any firmware updates or anything, it just worked outa the box all simple like. Now I can toss my external drive on a PC and backup recordings I wanna keep, and if I blow another drive, who cares! Shipped fast and works perfect outa the box for me.

Yo lo utilizo para grabar desde sistema de cable y me funcionó a la perfección. Graba a 1920x1080p. Lo único que se puede ajustar es la compresión del archivo y el tamaño del mismo de acuerdo a la calidad de la imagen. Para mí es suficiente.
