Bostik Cementone Freeflo Retarder Orange - 5L - Waterpoofer and Plasticiser for Mortar

I'm doing a lot of building work at the moment to reconstruct some 60 year old stone garden steps and a large patio area with a block wall surround to be rendered. I work alone and I often have problems with the mortar mix going off before I get anywhere near done with it. Unexpected things happen that cause delays, it can't be helped. Also, I'm in my 60's now so I am a bit doddery! I decided to look around for a 'retarder' to give me a little extra time and found this stuff. Wow!! just wow, this Freeflo Retarder has completely changed everything for me. It makes the mix super creamy and easy to work with but the extended time with it being workable is beyond belief. I'm finding that it lasts twice as long as it was without this additive, giving me much more time to move dozens of 20kg blocks and still be able to point up with it after I'm done. Fabulous. As if that wasn't enough, the waterproofing is superb. In extremely heavy rain (I'm in Wales, it's a normal day) I've seen the blocks themselves soaking up the water but the mortar with this stuff in it seems to stay as dry as a bone through to the core. Genuinely, I find it remarkable. I can honestly say that I won't mix up ever again without this being added. I've used other additives before but this is by far the best for me. I'll be rendering all the walls in the coming week and I'm looking forward to mixing up with this and getting started. Just my opinion but this seems to be top stuff, well recommended.

Excellent product I am no builder at all. I am just a keen diy’er I built both the walls in the pictures rear large wall first which I used a different mortar plasticiser from elsewhere. And I made the second smaller wall as a raised flower bed. The smaller wall I made was for planting a few plants after made the smaller bedding wall I filled it with soil. Like I said I am no builder and this is where I encountered the problem. I hadn’t thought of the water seeping through the joints in the mortar after watering. So my problem was was seeping through the brick joints. The. I was researching rendering then came across this. It was £8:00 at the time I purchased it cheaper than local diy stores and what can I say it’s fantastic did my job well. I rendered the back of the wall to the best of my ability lol. Next morning it was rock hard. Filled it back up with soil then have it a good soaking with water and the water drained away out of the drainage holes in larger rear wall all is well. It makes the mix your using a lot more workable for a longer period of time and is very forgiving if you put too much in or a bit less in. It still does the job.

Used this when mixing mortar to repair an interior wall as it makes the mortar easier to work with but also adds a degree of moisture resistance which I thought would be helpful as the brickwork is obviously connected to the cavity. As a DIY’er it would have been helpful if it was available in smaller quantities.

We "slurped" exterior wall with this before using Johnsons exterior paint. It sealed the flakey bits of cement and sealed it so that the paint coveted no problem in one coat. We'll worth using.

I am a builder. My plasterer will not use any other waterproofer. Can cost double local to me. Bargain
