Will this pond sit directly onto supported decking bearing in mind 8 MM. gaps between each plank

Not recommended unless you fit a plywood or similar sheet on top of your decking. The weight of water remember 10lb per gallon x 300, will force the liner into the gaps. This happens to a lesser extent on the vertical walls of the pond frame. It will handle it with small gaps between the decking boards but I would personally give it a base plate. You could go for kingspan or similar insulation sheets, I used this 2" thick boards, and it works a treat.
