It says it weighs 2kg - is this correct?

4.4 lbs is about 2kgs - I would have guessed it heavier. Although I assembled it myself, so it is certainly not heavy. Only bit of any weight is roof, which seems sturdy. And unless you fill it immediately with a lot of wood I would recommend you fix it to a fence or wall as high winds would certainly blow it over!

Would this fit 2 bins instead of using it for logs?

depending on the size of bins, but I would say no if Rubbish bins

Does it need painting?

Not paint. Instead, use a suitable long life wood treatment. I did the internal faces in black, to help absorb the sun.
