Just the job
Bought one of these when our camera picked up a rat running round our garden. They appear to be coming from under or inside a neighbours garage. Took a while to figure out the best place to place the trap. The trap was easy to set up and we found peanut butter works best. Apparently rats have a great sense of smell and know human smells so I used gloves when setting the trap, I also rubbed the trap all over with grass/dirt. Caught 3 rats so far and I’ve bought 2 more of these traps.

Resistant to my rat visitor.....no more
***Update ***.....arrived 14th May, finally caught a rat 7th July, returned from 2 week holiday hanging out washing and heard screams.....hadnt checked it up until then had put in hedgehog food when we first got it, as we had seen it on camera come into the hedgehogs feeding station. So happy with the result have amended the star rating......Product arrived no box or instructions but from reviews on here I knew how to set it up. The rat in question appears to be resistant to the rat poison I've been using in the past and proved to work. I've tried the bird seed, as thats what it seems to be going for. I've tried peanut butter and bread, as mentioned on a review, and, as I've caught it on my night vision camera helping itself to the wild hedgehog food I've tried that too. All to no avail it walks past the trap on its way into and out of my garden. It's a good sturdy contraption though and when testing to check it works makes mince meat of a wooden skewer.

Too small, not sensitive enough or both
Followed the instructions to the letter, including all the “to kill the rat, you must first be the rat” tactics of getting the trap settled in, etc.On the fifth day, Roland (the rat, he’s easily as big as the 80s breakfast TV one) took the test bait of peanut butter in the tunnel, so the game was on and I baited and set the trap. For days, nothing. After a week or two I baited the tunnel again and that went straight away but the peanut butter on the trap wasn’t touched. I guessed Roland was too big to get in the actual trap and started the returns process.Today, I came to package the trap to send it back… and the bait on the trap has gone, without triggering it. So either the trap is too small for big rats, not sensitive enough, or both. Whatever, it didn’t work. So I’m trying some open traps next, before the last resort of poison…

Getting the Rats!
We started to get a few rats in our garden. Having dogs we had limited options. Poison was out, and one of the dogs came in with a normal trap dangling of his ear! This one is safe for pets... but not for the rats!

Sound design, but let down by small entry holes; so more for large mice than feral rats.
We bought a couple of these traps for use outside where a rat had been attracted by spilt seed from a bird feeder. The design seems good, with an easy-to-set mechanism, that looks sturdy enough to dispatch a rat very easily, and can be reset by pressing down on a small exterior pedal. The trouble is that the entry holes at either side of the trap are too small for the rat in question, which would be hard-pressed to get even its head, much less its body, in far enough to trip the mechanism. Large mice or other rodents would fit in ok, but not feral rats. There's no scope for making the holes wider so, unless I can use the mechanism to fit in a larger tunnel, that's £30 down the tubes...
