6 rules to follow to help you as a parent
Really enjoyed reading this book, it’s easy to read and not too long either, so wasn’t overwhelmed by it all. The 6 rules to better parenting include some stuff I currently do or already knew but with lots of tips on how to improve it, as well as new ways of thinking about how we deal with the stressful situations we get into with our children. We want our children to grow up confident and independent and happy and this definitely reminds us of the foundations to this.I was feeling overwhelmed by my family recently snd this has helped to rethink things and deal with them in a different way.

A refreshing perspective
Although a lot of the information in this book was not new to me, I still gleaned some new thoughts from it and it was still a worthwhile read. I will be recommending it.

Wonderfully simple advice
So different to other parenting books I've read and so much better. None of the cringeworthy, made up examples of interactions with kids that never play out in real life. Just a few simple and realistic adjustments that completely changed my perspective and started working straight away.

If only other governments read this book
The book is great. Talks about the values that you plant in your kids from the beginning. The trouble is that as parents we can only change the way we teach our kids at home but if the governments and society will not do their part it's not going to work the same as in Denmark. Definitely recommend to read

Some excellent ideas… but caveats needed
This book covers a really interesting topic and includes a lot of excellent parenting concepts and advice, things that will help you to raise balanced, confident and happy children. Clearly Denmark (and other Scandinavian/ Northern European countries) do have a lot that we can learn from. My caveats are that a) it switches awkwardly between “he” and “she” - sometimes in the same paragraph - when referring to a generic child; it could have just used “they” throughout, b) it’s very much focused on a US audience and, whilst not overly frequent, uses US idioms and terms-of-phrase. Which also means that c) culturally Britain is probably partway between the US and Denmark in terms of attitudes to raising children, therefore in some cases the “challenge” or the distance between the ideal and the reality aren’t quite as pronounced if you’re a British reader / parent.

Brilliantly interesting.
As a mother of a one and a half year old (who has never read a parenting book in her life,) I've reached the developmental stage where everything seems to be an uphill struggle. While my child is getting more inquisitive, mobile and consistently pushing boundaries, I wonder about a thousand times a day if what I'm doing is right. Am I a good parent? Is she being challenged enough? What is everyone else doing that I'm not? When will this end? The horror!I've always had a fascination with the scandinavians and having been voted the happiest country for however many years running, I decided they must be on to something so purchased this book....and I love it.I'm most certainly not a hippy dippy parent and don't fall into the category of "we don't ever like to say no to little Timmy" but this book gives you pointers on how to be more relaxed, open and reframes the way you approach situations in a logical and do-able way.The psychological background is so interesting and makes so much sense. It won't turn you into the worlds most reasonable and understanding parent overnight but it will help you have a better understanding on how your child thinks and reacts to the world around them as well as reassuring you that everything is absolutely fine.I really can't recommend this enough. Good job.

Fantastic book marred by formatting issue in the Kindle version.
I'm loving this book and despite not having finished it yet I'm already implementing some of its strategies in the way I parent my one-year-old twins.I must point out, though, that there is a formatting issue in the Kindle version which means that all the chapter headings and subheadings are illegible as all the letters are squashed together. As a book and a parenting philosophy though, this is one that I highly recommend.
