Such an easy pattern. Made a top and a dress. Haven't sewn in years but this easy pettern brought it back.

I am not quite sure who grades these patterns with respect to easy, hard etc, and what experience level they are grading it on.After taking up a new hobby, going to classes, practising, I thought I would purchase my first commercial pattern to have a go and get some more experience. I purchased this as it stated easy in bold letters on the packaging and I decided to make view B.This may be 'easy' if you are an experienced seamstress, but it is far from easy if you are a beginner. I certainly would not recommend this pattern if you have just taken up the hobby of dressmaking unless you want your confidence severely dented.First off, the pattern pieces are severely creased and faded and no amount of ironing will get them out making then inaccurate before you even start. Cutting out the pattern after that is reasonably easy but that's about where easy stops.This pattern uses darts, double darts, facings, collars, sleeve gathering, concealed zipper insertion, ease stitching, vent construction. The pattern instructions are terrible and you really need to have done all those things above before as the instructions and diagrams give very little help and in many cases severely confuse the issue.My problem is not with the pattern itself, it's the case that it is graded easy.It took me a couple of weeks to complete this with lots of research, youtube videos and asking advice. Even though I completed it, there are lots of imperfections and I was on the verge of completely giving up at one point after cutting some pattern pieces multiple times as they became damaged after multiple failed attempts.If you are a beginner, I would definitely find something a lot easier than this, and build up to this pattern as this pattern does use many different techniques that when all done at the same time with each one being a defined skill on it's own. I have certainly used patterns that are easier and let you put into practise just a couple of techniques at a time without being frustrating. I did patterns in class that were graded intermediate and they were certainly easier than this one.

This is a very straightforward pattern for a variety of dresses. Don’t be confused by the negative reviews. It is very common to have a straight pattern piece for a rounded collar, when the piece is cut on the bias it has enough stretch to go around the neckline. That is how banding works on items like tshirts and arm hems. So not sure the other reviewer was confused about how to make that work. Another reviewer commented that the collar looks to be cut on the bias in the picture but that it was omitted from the instructions. This is not true. If you look at the pattern piece and match the grain line on the fabric, the piece will be cut on the bias. This is a strait forward and should give you no trouble.
