Q: I don't understand-- it's meant to heat the eyelids, but a plastic lip seems to block the gel pack in order to keep it in place?

I have used the plastic mask and inserted gel pack without an issue.

The heat packs are tested to make sure they maintain therapeutic heat for at least 10 minutes. Your skin may be getting used to the heat which could be why it doesn't feel as hot. It should still be providing enough heat for at least 10 minutes. If you think you have a defective heat pack you can reach out to TearRestore directly and they can help.
