We spend a lot of money on banjos - might as well spend a little more getting the best out of them.

Used for adjusting head tension on banjo. Works very well, easy to use with clear instructions included - plenty of youtube videos available online with demonstrations of how to use. Like most banjo players, I've managed without one for a long time, but it is reasonably priced for a quality product, and now there's no need to guess how tight I can adjust the head before it breaks!

banjo head

I have an assortment of banjos, mainly new ones. When they arrive the banjo head usually needs tensioning. The banjo heads I'm referring to are frosted, smooth and weatherkings. I've tensioned mine at 90, the norm is generally 89-91 depending on the sound you want. I found the gauge ideal for the banjo.

Absolutely brilliant tuning device

If you are serious about how your drums sound, you need to have this item.! Absolutely brilliant tuning device, easy to set up and use. Easy to follow drum size and tension guides make tuning drums a pleasure. After years of tuning by ear I finally decided to get myself a drumdial. I was sceptical at first but at the first gig I played after tuning the kit with it I was blown away by how good the kit sounded. I honestly thought I had a good sounding kit til I tuned it properly with the drumdial....WOW, what a difference it made..!!! Honestly. you will not be disappointed with this item, it is now an essential part of my kit..!!!

Tuning Drums Made Easy

Tuning drums has always a personal choice so there is never a correct or not correct tone. I've always tuned my drums by ear using the star pattern and as long as the sound near each lugs the same felt that is was OK. I've never really known what pitch really to tune each drum. The Drum Dial helps here as it gives a tension for each drum. Pop the dial on the drum head near a tightening lug, it measured by a metal measuring rod, and tighten to your desired tension normally around 75 - 78 for toms, higher for snare. The Drum dial certainly makes it easier to tune drums to your desired tuning. Certainly worth buying if you are new to acoustic drums.

My DW drums sound good again. I recommend that you slacken used heads ...

Arrived early, well packaged although the edge gauge was missing. Amazon rectified this very quickly --- thank you.The tuner is well made and does the job well. My DW drums sound good again. I recommend that you slacken used heads completely and start afresh, tightening each screw a bit at a time until the required tension is achieved . I tuned mine to the settings in the instruction booklet and they sound great. I imagine tuning new heads would be even easier. I am partially deaf and use hearing aids so listening to the tone tapping by each tension screw was difficult, with this tuner I can see the tension at each one.

Not Perfect

I play drums! A lot! I am always looking for the perfectly tuned drum and, having seen this online and watched the company's promo videos regarding the use of the drum dial, i decided to purchase and try it the drum dial for myself. On toms it works like a dream, with no hassle using the included tension guide. The tuning of the snare drum is a little more tricky. A perfect pitch all round the head is more than a bit difficult to achieve, with very little tension an some rods and more on others! Playing the snare like this caused some rods to slacken off completely. I advise using this item s a starting point on the snare drum or, alternatively, use a product like a torque key, also available via Amazon.

Banjo players , buy one today.

Getting your banjo head tuned in can be a hit and miss affair for most people. I struggled with the tap method and wasn't happy with my results. After watching the video on Drum Dials web site I thought I should give Drum Dial a go. It arrived quickly, was easily set up and I had my banjo tuned up in a couple of minutes. The difference in the tone of my banjo is amazing. Since then I've tuned up a few more banjos for friends and they are all equally happy with the results. My advice to all you banjo pickers out there,"Buy one today".

I bought this before going into studio so my drums would sound perfect for recording

Unless I followed the instructions wrong (I'm sure I didn't) the tuner wasn't able to tune the drums at all. Following the tension guide made the tension rods completely loose and therefore the skins weren't tight at all rendering the skins un-playable. I bought this before going into studio so my drums would sound perfect for recording. I wasted ÂŁ54 and ended up tuning my kit by ear instead. I see one reviewer had the same problem with their snare but not tom toms. I had the problem with all my drums. I can only assume I had a duff tuner or I'm a complete duff and can't follow instructions properly
