A Little Gem!
After my hubby's type 2 diabetes diagnosis we struggled finding dessert/treat recipes that tasted good without putting him at risk.We bought some highly reviewed sugar free cookbooks, but soon felt overwhelmed by them as most ingredients weren't easy to source or had to be made from scratch and we were unsure of safe alternatives. After reading all the reviews I'm delighted I bought this book, and from what we have baked so far we have been really pleased with the results. For some of the comments that aired on the negative side, I just wanted to note that:Yes, the book doesn't have visuals - but for the price of the book it's not the end of world.Yes, Xylitol is used as a sugar alternative - if like us you are only coming to grips with T2 diabetes, I wouldn't have even known it could be used as an alternative.Yes, Xylitol is bad for dogs. It explains that in the book and on the food packaging but we don't feed the dog what we eat as per our vets advice.Yes, some of the recipes are basic but if you are new to baking or just prefer quick and snappy recipes or ideas then there's no harm in it!

Great book
I can't speak highly enough of this book. I've baked today the light fruit cake! It's the best cake I've ever done.So let me explain why I scored this book a 4.Positives - my dad is type 2 diabetic and missing out on lovely cakes I was excited to get this book for him as he does occasionally bake. It's his birthday so I thought I'd bake him the fruit cake. I done a trial run today in case it turns out rubbish. It was delicious!I'll be baking another one at the weekend for him. Now, they use a sugar called xylitol. Which I never heard of. So this is a good thing too.The recipe is easy to follow, although no pics. The cooking time was exact too, didn't need extra.Negatives - no idea sugars per portion or calories given.Being paperback it is hard to keep pages open to read recipe. However, I've ordered a 2nd book to keep for myself. So overall really impressed.

book review
I got this book to be able to produce cakes and buns with no sugar for diabetics.Sue Simkins uses a natural sugar substiitute made from birch wood, called XYLITOL.It reduces sugar intake by half and does not store sugar as fat in the body. This book is excellent for poeple wanting lose weight or are Diabetics.Tryed using other sugar sudstitutes but they did not work they tasted disgusting..They now taste like cakes should taste.Only down side is price. £10.99 per Kilo

Healthier bakes maybe but Xylitol shockingly expensive.
Great little book with lovely recipes but did not realise how extremely expensive, Xylitol sugar substitute is - check out the price before you decide to buy the book otherwise it will sit on the bookshelf.

Not at all what I expected
Poor quality , no pictures only uses xylitol as substitute sweetener( not everyone can tolerate xylitol in there gut etc)
