Goodfellas From Nicholas Pileggi’s true-life bestseller Wiseguy, GoodFellas explores the criminal life like no other movie. Directed and co-written by Martin Scorsese, it was judged 1990’s Best Picture by the New York, Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics and named to the American Film Institute’s Top-100 American Films List. Electrifying performances abound, and from a standout cast that includes Robert DeNiro, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Paul Sorvino, Joe Pesci walked off with the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award®. Unforgiven Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty. Richard Harris is a killer. And Gene Hackman is a lawman of sly charm. The Shawshank Redemption Few movies capture the triumph of the human spirit as memorably as this. Red (Morgan Freeman), a lifer who “knows how to get things” inside the bleak walls of Shawshank State Prison, finds himself drawn to new inmate Andy (Tim Robbins), a quiet banker with an indomitable will. As Andy brings hope and change to the entire prison, he turns out to be full of surprises – and the best comes last, leading to one of the most satisfying finales in movie history. Training Day Alonzo Harris is a twisted but charismatic L.A. undercover narcotics detective who both attracts and repels as he becomes the kind of thug he’s supposed to collar. Jake Hoyt is an idealistic rookie on his first day of patrol with Harris...and it’s a day of reckoning. Elvis This epic drama explores the life and music of Elvis Presley as seen through the prism of Presley’s complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker. A mixture of varied films on this set by Warner Bros.
This set features the films unforgiven, Goodfellas, Elvis ( which I haven't seen that one) The Shawshank redemption (anyone remember when this film was originally on Tri star DVD? and Training Day. Here are my individual scores as follows for the films on the set which I have seen. I start with Goodfellas which I give a score of 4/5 Goodfellas is basically a story of a guy who becomes involved with the mafia organization, and later on becomes a FBI informant and testifies against the mobsters in a court. It's based on a true story by all accounts and it stars Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci are amongst it's main stars. The film is full of bad language, and bloody scenes, and character development scenes and it is a fairly long film too. Next i am going to give a score to Unforgiven 3/5 which is basically a modern day western film directed and starring Clint Eastwood. Other stars in that film include Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman. This Unforgiven film is a very long film and it focuses on the Clint Eastwood main character as he battles against the traditional evil sheriff played by Gene Hackman in this film. The film itself is quite dramatic in places and it features some violent scenes in it. The next film is Training Day 2/5 which is about a corrupt American policemen who is played by Denzel Washington, this film is more of a drama film with heavy dialogue scenes and it's ok to watch. It's not really a action film like Bad Boys or Lethal Weapon. Next is the Shawshank Redemption, which is a prison style drama and it stars Tim Robins and Morgan Freeman. It's a very long film and features heavy dialogue scenes and it is about this banker who gets sent to prison for something he didn't do and escapes prison itself and tries to prove his innocence, again a very long film in places and it features a lot of dramatic performances. I give that one a score of 3/5. When the film first came out it wasn't very well liked and didn't do too well at the box office back then . I believe all the special features are present from previous DVD releases of the films themselves are on this 4K Blu- ay set. I am not sure if anything new is on the set itself. Lastly, I come to the Elvis film, which I have not seen , so I am not going to say much about that one. Overall this is a good set and worth purchasing for your 4k Blu-ray collection. Even if some of the films themselves are a mixture of genres.
