I've never been in an apartment where the C02/Smoke detector is THIS sensitive but every time I opened up my oven at high temperatures it would go off for a few seconds. I don't want to bother my neighbors, especially when I want to make something later on in the night, so I bought these. So far so good, haven't had any issues at all. I even doubled up on it just in case and it fit just fine.Obviously the C02/Smoke detector SHOULD NOT be covered all the time, just for cooking, but my place is very small and there is literally another C02/Smoke detector not 2 feet from the other one (see pictures) so I'm completely comfortable closing the door to my bedroom, while I use the oven, and the one in the living room/kitchen remains covered. If there IS ever a real danger the other detector, again literally 2 feet from the 1st one, will detect it.

I love these. Smoke detectors are so loud they drive me crazy. I slip one of these over the units before I begin cooking and never have a problem again. Although I need a stool to put it over the ceiling unit, it hangs just low enough that I can easily grab it off the ceiling unit when I'm done cooking.

I bought them as a rather tongue-in-cheek stocking stuffer for my husband. I haven't yet purchased a dedicated stove hood and have a lousy hood under a microwave. It doesn't have much power and anytime I sear anything or stir-fry - the smoke alarm in the hall goes off which triggers all the smoke alarms in the house. I have to borrow my hubby's height so that he can reset them when they go off.He chuckled when he read the description on the package and noticed that I put one on the hall detector the next evening to sear some steaks for dinner. The alarm stayed silent! Yay!!They are very handy. I have a linen closet a few feet from the smoke detector and just put the covers in a gallon ziplock and tossed them in there so they'd be in easy reach.
