Feels like you're living with her through it all
Being lost in my own mental health I looked for books to try and gain some understanding of myself. This book was a great help and comfort at the time, as you were with Kristen from beginning to end and by end I mean her beating it! It helped relight the fire and hope in my heart. Deffo worth a read!

One of those books were you miss the main character when you finish!
I came across this book on Twitter. Twitter has given me interesting conversation, up to date therapy news, gift ideas and local activities and most recently a new book to read.Although I'm an avid reader and read many practical books about therapy and mental health, for personal reading I tend to avoid mental health. I want to escape work in my relaxation time. However the book snuck in under my radar and it seemed like a bargain as an ebook.I'm pleased it did. The book is about mental health and therapy and it is hard hitting. However, it was also emotional and engaging. Although the main character has a very hard life, I didn't feel pity, but as though I was a passenger on her journey and stepped back from analysis, diagnosis and therapy.Kristen was brought up an emotionally neglectful and abusive family home and is withdrawn from those around her. Self-Harm became her coping skill but a skill that began to control her. Cleverly self-harm is depicted as a character which means you feel the addictive control, release and emotion more tangibly than you would with a simple description of cutting. This story is a journey to understand her family, herself and her strengths, not just a drama about mental health problems. This book is not factual, it provides no advice or guidance and it only tells one very individual story however it does educate. It's education lies in allowing those who have never experienced that level of distress or self-harm to understand what it might be like and to emphasise instead of judge or ignore, a powerful tool in today's culture.http://branchcounselling.co.uk/?p=242 full review

Moving, insightful and powerful.
I'm currently going through the process of receiving a mental health diagnosis, it's likely that I have BPD. I found this book to be a fantastic healing tool, allowing me to further understand things that I do and how I can change my behaviour in order to heal.I absolutely loved this book, it was deep and emotional and sometimes distressingly graphic, but it's real. I love the honesty.Brilliant.

One of the best
I've never been a fan of Fiction, i've always been non-fiction, but this book has well and truly made me begin to love fiction. It is wonderful and I didn't know anything about BPD until I read this, and it has helped me get a little bit of understanding about it. I must admit, one of the longest yet exciting, realistic, amazing books I've ever read. I'd certainly recommend it. If you haven't got it already, what are you doing? You must get it, you wont regret it.

Beautifully written, very relatable
Beautifully written, very relatable, and captivating from start to finish. Felicia Johnson has done a magnificent job of giving the reader an up close and personal view of what it's like to live with borderline personality disorder. Thank you for your efforts in trying to help the world understand BPD a little more with every page turned..

HER. If you read one book, this has to be it.
Let me start by stating I do not normally read these types of books. I was asked to read it by a friend who I take heed of their opinions of books, and thus, I read it, beginning as merely a form of 'obligation', until I found myself sucked into the story. Diverse characters, well written (again, I don't normally go for what you'd call teen angst), but after reading the book, it gives you an entirely new outlook on supposed teen angst. Sometimes, it isn't angst, it is a much bigger issue, but one that can, with professional help, be nipped in the bud. If you're a parent with a child who is becoming a tween/teen, you really need to read this. If you are a teacher, you need to read this book. If you like good writing, you need....ya know what? Read it. Regardless of the reasons, you should take the time to read this. It will open your eyes and help you to understand youth and others as well. Learn that different doesn't mean bad, and that 'cry for help' is there, if you know what you're looking for. Take a bit of time, relax and enjoy yourself. This is that rare book that you walk away from having learned something, and Felicia Johnson does one thing I truly appreciate. She doesn't 'push an agenda'. She tells a story. She tells one hell of a good story. Read this folks. It's worth the effort. Kristin is your guide into a world most of us never see, and it's a world we really need to understand. This is a permanent addition to my Kindle collection, and is now one of my top ten books.

Raw, real, haunting...yet spattered with shards of defiant hope
Through Kristen’s story, I was able to experience the world through the eyes of a survivor – both of mental illness and of the stigma associated with it. I was able to walk every painful step of the journey with Kristen, teetering on the brink of survival and confronted with truths I’d rather not know. But Kristen’s journey is about more than illness; it is a story that I can identify with. It is the story of each of us striving to live in a harsh world with the commonality of our deepest desires – to be accepted, to be loved and to be feel that our lives mean something.~ Haseena PatelCo-founder & Executive Director, Leave No Girl Behind International[...]
