Good but with limitations
I had a good idea what to expect, having briefly used the lifeboat one. My surprise initially was how much you could see of inanimate objects, mooring buoys and the like. When we came to use it to help leave the river Deben in the dark it was great for avoiding mooring buoys which are made of plastic and thus have a different surface temperature to the surrounding water but not so good at spotting bigger navigation marks, I guess because they are steel, which conducts heat better and thus has a similar temperature to the surrounding water. All in all useful but with limitations. I am sure it would be invaluable as an aid to finding someone in the water.

Faulty product
I received the package and the battery was completely dead. Usually the battery would have a small bit of charge. The device will not boot up correctly. Probably because it's lost its memory from being dead for a length of time. I've raised a support ticket with flir to see if this can be resolved. The build quality feels nice, its a nice size and fits in a pocket well.

Very poor and grainy picture in the black and white imagages. Very little definition in heat range
When I was looking for FLIR, I have done a fair bit of research into this device and how effective it was. Not a cheap item for myself and I can imagine many others as well. The ergonomics of the device was really good and only a couple of minor flaws which others had picked up on previously. The charging port you need to pry out with something blunt but pointed. And could not find out if there is software upgrades to improve the image. Here we go. Image definition. I have had this thermal imager since the 15th of December 2018. If you wish to see a heat signature only, then fine you will see a heat signature. At about 300m I had a image of a blob at night which I know to be a hare running across a field, as we have a number of them. Same distance during the day I had 4 larger blobs in the field which to the naked eye was deer, and my eyesight isn't great. Tonight 03/2/2019 a blob of a rat at 25m. I also tried to get birds in trees at 10m close range out to 100 meters and it was impossible to distinguish between the bushes and the birds. The trees and bushes are like they are over exposed giving a kind of flare back. The range of this device is to close to pick out shapes when these items are at the outside temperature's. I would not like to be on a boat relying on this for guidance at night. What did surprise me is I was looking in a mirror and I could see my image? When I was researching this I went on to the FLIR UK website and found that someone had reported possible condensation inside and the team seemed to be excellent in dealing with his enquiry and more than helpful to assist him with this problem. Myself I am going to return this to Amazon for a replacement. Possibly I have the same problem as it looks like someone has tried to clean a window with a wet cloth and let it dry like that. I have no doubt in my mind that this item has very many uses but if they were all in this condition I would advise not to spend your money on this. If they are as good as the advertise then you will have a very useful device. Because of how expensive it is, there are some good much cheaper night vision devices out there. I know I have a few but they are restricted to about 60-100m for the price. I will update this after I have returned it to Amazon. Amazon have been very good so far. Amazon have sent a replacement to me and I have had a chance test it out. I have upgraded my review to 3 stars as there is an improvement to this devise image quality. For me I am afraid it's still really poor vision. previously the model was a 2015 this time it was a 2016. In wide open fields you can see rabbits 200 to 300 yards away in black heat, Click on to instant heat image setting's you see no heat source. Small birds can be seen as white dots as your walking along at night in white mode, in a field of cut wheat, you do see a tiny white hot impression about 15- 20m distance. So this item can be very useful. Its failure for me is I try to use this to find birds and grey squirrels in trees. It is like trying to find detail in an over exposed picture as I have mentioned previously. I need pinpoint definition to prevent glare from the trees. The heat signature can not be picked out as the whole tree with no leave glows making it useless for bird and squirrel observation. The tree also becomes the heat signature in red but the animal does not show up. Very good solid and very well made item. would like to see a separate mode button at the thumb. A forward and backward mode buttons instead of having to scroll through the menu to get back to what you have just passed. WORD OF WARNING. MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU BYE, YOU ARE RECIEVEING THE LATEST MODEL OR YOU WILL BE PAYING NEARLY £3000 FOR SOMETHING WHICH COULD BE 4 YEARS OLD. AND AS TECH MOVES SO QUICKLY YOU WILL BE DISSAPOINTED. CHECK FOR REVIEWS WHICH REFLECT THE YEAR OF THE PRODUCT YOU WISH TO BYE.

Good thermal scope BUT you definitely get what you pay for
This thermal scope is good FOR THIS PRICE POINT, sadly it has shortfalls and doesn't fit my needs so ill be returning it. In hindsight I wish I did more research into the products but fell for the limited time only sale price malarkey during the prime sale. I advise going to YouTube and type 'FLIR Scout TKx Teledyne FLIR'. There you'll find video of what the device can do from FLIR themselves. Pros: - Intuitive, easy to understand controls - Good field of view (FoV) - Great variety of Image colour palettes (able to change to better suit the situation, very nice, might be best feature) - battery life is great (used it for an hour and a half ish and still on four of four bars) - able to see the wires of power lines from fairly far away (little over 200m ish, against the backdrop of the sky. Wasn't lucky enough to see any wildlife when i went out at night to test it so can't comment on that part) - feels great in the hand - video recording and camera is a nice touch - accessories are really handy - feels rugged and solid in the hand but I'm not going to test its durability Cons: - The detector resolution isn't able to keep up with FoV leading to issues. Two of which are the image being very washed out (therefore not detailed). Secondly, I found it struggles to look past branches of trees (few to no leaves but fairly dense concentration of branches) to lukewarm objects behind the tree (in my test the exterior of my house with recently driven car in front). - Probably my biggest gripe, the refresh rate. oh dear. I understand that thermal imagers fall under International traffic in arms regulations (ITAR) which is some legal stuff imposed by the USA on a select few countries to stop these devices getting into the wrong hands. So there isn't any infringement on ITAR, the refresh rate is set to be below 9Hz. This isn't great, it's a slideshow. This makes using it whilst walking jarring at best. As i live in a non embargoed country, the UK, ill definitely be getting ones with better refresh rate. Best used standing still. - probably because of the price point, there is no zoom. There is the focus for the display within the imager but that's it. Can definitely be used without this though, just would of been nice. It annoys me that they could of had an amazing product if the sensor was just slightly larger and the refresh rate was not in the gutter (25Hz at least like other products on offer). The rest of the imager is fantastic, These 2 key points drag it down quite a lot hence my rating.

Good for what it is
We use this as part of our dog rescue team (Hot dog dog rescue) and it has been really good for sweeping undergrowth day and night. The only issue I have is a glasses wearer, that I have to keep taking glasses off an on. That my broken eyesight though!

I got this from BF sale for almost half off the regular price. The refresh rate is bad but within my expectation. This new model has a lot less parasitic battery drain compared to the old TK model I read from reviews.

値段相応な性能だと思います。サーマルスコープがこの値段で買えるようになったのは有り難いですね。昔は安くて30万円以上はしたので。サバゲーで今度使ってみます。
