Beautiful Book
This is a beautiful book with wonderful illustrations and information about crows and ravens. It was a well received gift for my loved one who loves crows. I would recommend it for the illustrations alone. A real beauty of a book. Very special.

Full of facts
The art sketches are beautiful. The book is large and full of facts and details of past/present myths. This book is perfect for raven/crow lovers, especially when there are many around your home and neighborhood. We'll keep and use and treasure this book forever.

If you love Corvids and Avian behavior this book is for you.
I met the author at a wild bird festival we hosted on Orcas Island WA. Fascinating researcher and dedicated his entire career of teaching at UW to Corvids. Excellent reading for the novice, the expert avian enthusiasts. I would read this to children bc it's so well written and easily understood by anyone who is interested in the Ravens and Crows behavior and habitats. Start them loving and interested in Crows & Ravens at a young age!!! This is my second book..my signed book was given away to a couple who have adopted a pair of Ravens in Seattle and I just wanted them to know more. I plan to send this to UW and ask author/ professor to resign!!!

Kindle edition has formatting problems. Book is lovely.
FOR KINDLE READERS: I bought the Kindle version of this a couple days ago and have been in touch with customer service. As soon as my refund is processed I will watch eagerly for a corrected version or breakdown and buy the paperback (I am trying to downsize and really don't want any more DTBs). I read the preface, the forward, and chapter 1. The numerous formatting problems were in three categories: one word running up against the next one such as "attentionhas" for "attention has"; random punctuation marks inserted in weird places; and line spacing. You can typically set the line spacing on your Kindle when you choose the font type and size, but that option was not available for this book. The line spacing you get is beyond generous. Changing the font size did not help, not did changing devices from iPhone to Kindle to PC. In chapter one the line spacing corrected itself, only to revert back to the triple-spacing a few pages later. At this point I got so frustrated trying to keep my concentration - I have over 400 Kindle books and none of them have had this many errors. It is a shame because this author and this illustrator deserve so much better! I will add that Amazon customer service was really pleasant about this and promised to send my email onto the technical team for forwarding to the publisher and also promised to email me when the formatting is corrected, and offered a refund. Thank you Amazon.FOR EVERYONE ELSE: I am very much looking forward to owning (and finishing) this book again, either in a corrected format for Kindle or in a physical book. What I read was well-written, well-thought through, and fascinating. The illustrations are lovely. If you are a birdwatcher or have a particular interest in crows and/or ravens, this book is a must-read. I am confident that this is a book I will re-buy and will re-read many times.

company of crows and ravens
Crows have always been the birds I love to watch, they are smart and funny. It is a well written book, with nice drawings and any one who reads it will want to take a second look at crows. They are a nice looking bird, and are much more fun to watch than some of the bright colored birds. T.V., movies and Poe have caused a lot of people look at this very smart bird with distaste. The book opens up thier world to the reader. Any one who reads it will want to take a second look at crows. Good, but still a bit disappointing
I really, really wanted to love this book. I love birds and their doings; in fact all of nature and animals interest me. The outward presentation of the book is beautiful. Most of the pictures inside are absolutely wonderful, in a kind of subdued but powerful way, although a few seemed drab or overly simple. The book had some interesting parts; unfortunately, they were usually fleeting and not fleshed out enough before the author reverted to a style which, to me, read like a textbook. It is especially evident in the dry first chapter, which could easily put off some readers from the rest of the book. It did get better, but never reached what I'd hoped for: a fascinating, stirring and well-written read on a great subject. I'm a person who loves nature, and wanted to read this to expand on a more specific interest in the corvids. Unfortunately, I believe this book is mainly for those who are already completely in love with the subjects.

For me it was the finest book on crows I have found to date
If you purchase one book ever on the subject of "Crows", this is it! John Marsluff makes the history and current information on crows so accessible for the average reader. A text I will go back to many times, with the illustrations alone worth the price of the book. For me it was the finest book oncrows I have found to date. Marsluff is an Academic, but his text was a joy to read and absorb. I will never look at a crow again in the same light after reading this book. Truly a gem of a book, and a must-read for anyone who is interested in wild birds.

In the Company of Ravens
This is a fantastic book made even better by the top quality illustrations - the authors should be congratulated for their fascinating look at the natural history but also the folk lore of corvids, and their long association with man. The inclusion of some of the rarer species (e.g. the Hawaiian Crow) and the conservation measures brought in for such species is particularly interesting.

They are incredibly smart
I have this book and purchased another as a gift because my neighbors have been fascinated with our local bird population and wanted to know more about them. The book is a great resource.
