worth a watch but nothing new except to see Russell as a priest

Saw this at the cinema. I was looking forward to seeing it and I wasn't disappointed. But I wasn't overly impressed either.It's a good enough movie. If you are into horror, exorcisims, demons etc then it is a good way to spend two hours and be entertained.Is it a good horror?No but it does have lots of action, demoniac possession, people being thrown around, all the usual cliche's for this style of movie. But nothing we haven't seen before so by it's almost familiarity there's very little to no trepidation for the audience.Is the story good?Yes; but again nothing we haven't seen before. But the story, familiar though it maybe, is well told and Russel Crows character is very good as the playfull maverick priest exorcist but it does lack the tension one normally expects (and hopes for) with this sort of movie.It's supposed to be based on the true records of the exorcist being portrayed; so is it believeable?Not really, not unless you really and I mean really do believe in these sorts of stories. But if you are prepared to suspend disbelief for the duration of the movie it is well constructed and a good romp into the world of demonology.In short; good entertaining movie if you enjoy this sort of thing, but not a great or future classic.One thing that amused me was the demon possessing the child; it's mannerisms and speech reminded me of Smegal Gollum and I half expected it to say 'precious' at the end of each sentence. While this was amusing it did somewhat destroy the mood of the scene.
